Crown Trade Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Durable Acrylic Eggshell
A water-based, durable, mould inhibiting acrylic eggshell for use on interior walls and woodwork. Steracryl Mould Inhibiting Acrylic Eggshell contains fungicide to maintain decorated surfaces by inhibiting the development of mould growths on the paint film.

What is mould?
Moulds and fungi are found everywhere inside and outside. They can grow on almost any substance when moisture is present, such as empty premises and voids where condensation is prevalent. Moulds, when they produce, make spores which can be carried by air currents and when these land on a moist surface, suitable for life, they begin to grow.
Spores need 3 things to grow into mould...
Nutrients: Such as cellulose which can be found in most papers and paints.
Moisture: As found in areas of high condensation, e.g. void properties, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.
Time: Mould growth begins between 24 hours and 10 days from the provision for the growing conditions.
In artificial environments, like buildings, humidity and temperature are often stable enough to foster the growth of mould colonies. Some mould can begin growing at temperatures as low as 2°C and, if conditions are not suitable for growth, they can remain alive, in a dormant state within a large range of temperatures before they die. This explains how moulds survive harsh conditions such as containers in refrigerators or inside building structural cavities.
Testing for Mould Inhibition:
Crown Trade Steracryl has a proven pedigree in the prevention of mould growth. Stringent testing by the PRA (The Paint Research Association) has found it to be an effective mould inhibitor over long periods of time.
Fungal testing was carried out according to the British Standard test procedure BS3900: G6, in which the test paint films were inoculated with a spore suspension containing the following mixture of mould and yeast fungi.
The test panels and control panels were spray inoculated with the spore suspension and placed in a fungal test cabinets. After 7 days of incubation, the panels were re-inoculated with the spore suspension and incubation was continued.
Crown Trade Steracryl proved highly effective as a mould inhibiting product when compared to a standard paint product.
