Give Your Shed a Little TLC

The shed is one of the easiest parts of any property to forget about. If you don’t use it very often, it’s more than likely that you won’t have given it any attention in a while. By giving your shed a little TLC from time-to-time, you’ll probably want to use it more and it’ll look great!

Sheds are commonly built from timber. Wood is a great surface to work with – as long as you take care of it. If you don’t take care of the timber it’ll start to fall apart and look uninviting very quickly. Weather conditions and more can all affect how the wood performs over time.

Get off to the right start

Use Blackfriar Wood Primer to prepare the timber before you do anything else. It’s a white primer that leaves you with the perfect base for decorative paints. Strip down the surface and use the primer to make easy work for any overcoating.

Once you’ve primed your shed, you can use decorative paints to make it feel loved again. Take inspiration from these sheds. There are so many things you can do with it!

Choose a good quality finish

Decoration is the exciting part no matter what you choose to decorate with! You can let your imagination run wild with Solignum Architectural (Water Based). The beautiful colours leave you with a low-sheen, opaque finish with over 5 years life expectancy. It’s water-repellent but it will allow the timber below to breath as well. With a sheen like this, you can skip the primer as the finish will penetrate the wood. It’ll also protect your shed from mould growth and UV light. The strength of the colour will hold and it’s a low maintenance paint!

Use decorative elements

Once you’ve redecorated the shed with paint or wood stains, you can start to think about adding some personal touches. It may be something as simple as hanging baskets or adding plant pots to the surroundings to give it a bit of life. Think about painting a design onto one side, such as initials or lettering for an extra bit of personalisation. Everything in site can be decorated, down to the door handles!

A shed is a versatile outhouse, you’re only limited by your creativity and imagination! There is a lot you can do with a small space. Start by taking care of the exterior and spending a little more time on maintenance and decoration.
