The Benefits

Glossy and slick surfaces are challenging to paint over since coatings struggle to stick to the surface suitably. For business and landlords looking to update areas with new colour schemes, or to match existing themes, Zinsser AllCoat Solvent Based is easy to apply and quick to dry, with strong adhesion to the substrate. Its speedy application and low odour ensures a business minimises disruption to trade and customers, reopening areas and premises faster, and for landlords to introduce their properties back to market in timely fashion.

Glossy and slick surfaces can be found in many areas of businesses and public services, including:

    • Kitchens
    • Staff rooms
    • Car show rooms
    • Furniture stores
    • Receptions areas
    • Kitchens and bathrooms

Why use Zinsser? Zinsser listens to contactors and develops new products – or adds features to existing products – to meet their changing needs, delivering world class products that meet “real world” challenges, providing tried and tested solutions to painting problems, such as painting over glossy/slick surfaces.

Step 1. Surface Preparation

All surfaces to be painted over must be clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied, removing loose and failing material by scraping or brushing with a stiff bristle brush to a sound edge, feathering sound edges with a fine grade abrasive paper.

Prior to painting, the moisture content should not exceed 18%.

Remove all dust and then remove all visible signs of organic growth, treating affected areas with Zinsser Mould Killer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

In areas with sound paint, wash clean down with Zinsser Universal Cleaner & Degreaser to remove any contaminants, rinsing thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues, and allow to dry.

Any small surface defects and cracks should be filled with a suitable filler (as appropriate in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions), allowing the surface to dry before rubbing down with a fine grade abrasive paper, and then remove all dust.

Step 2. Priming

Prime all of the areas that are to be decorated with one full coat of Zinsser AllCoat Solvent Based, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, and allow a minimum drying time of 2 hours (in normal drying conditions).

Step 3. Decoration

Decorate with one or two coats of Zinsser AllCoat Solvent Based in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. The finish is available in more than 2,700 RAL, BS and NCS colours, offering plenty of choice for matching existing décor and corporate branding schemes.
