Painting over old wallpaper can be both time saving and cost effective. Zinsser’s high adhesion paints prime and seal all in one, blocking stains and odours. By using them you can paint over existing wallpapers without having to strip them off and once primed you can either finish the job with your own paints to match your colour scheme or choose one of Zinsser’s Perma-White finishes to provide a durable, washable surface.
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Ensure all wallpaper is well adhered. Remove all visible signs of organic growth and treat the areas with Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.
Prime all areas to be decorated with one full coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus Primer Sealer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of 1 hour in normal drying conditions.
At this point you can finish the system using your own paints if you wish to bring the colour scheme back in with the rest of the room. Alternatively, decorate with two full coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior Eggshell, Satin or Semi-Gloss in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of 2 hours between coats in normal drying conditions.
If you have a different type of wallpaper that you want to make sure is OK to use the above system with or if you just wish to discuss anything regarding this blog post further please do not hesitate to get in touch.
