SikaFloor Anti-Static Flooring Solutions

The term anti-static refers to a condition where static build up is prevented during contact and separation of an item (person/machinery) with the floor. When working with volatile chemicals for example, the smallest electrostatic charge could have severe consequences. To create safe working environments across industries, Sika have designed a range of anti-static flooring solutions which include industrial scale anti-static floor paints for electronic component manufacturing and handling plants.

Anti-static flooring can either be static dissipative – ESD (Electro Static Discharge) or static conductive – ECF (Electrically Conductive Flooring). The term Anti-Static and ECF essentially mean the same thing, these floors are then different to ESD floors.

Important Note: The following anti-static floor system configurations must be fully complied with as described and may not be changed. No works should be undertaken from the information provided here, this is just an indicative guide for reference. All works must be carried out by professionals only and Sika must provide a written specification for any works to be undertaken derived from a site visit. Due to the nature of carbon fibres providing the conductivity, surface irregularities might be possible. This has no influence on the function and performance of the coating.

ESD (Electro Static Discharge) Systems

ESD is all about body voltage and protecting the worker rather than simple prevention of spark generation.  Also remember that ESD systems are part of a package that includes the appropriate PPE (ESD boots), earthing bracelets etc. The typical resistance to ground is between 1.0 x 10 to the power 6 and 1.0 x 10 to the power 9 ohms.

Sikafloor Electro-Static Discharge Systems are suitable for areas with requirements for the lowest electro-static charge. This typically includes clean rooms in the electronics, microbiology or microchemistry sectors and production plants in the automobile industry. Please see Sika’s ESD Systems below.
