GacoPro 100% Silicone Roof Coating – How To Guide

We no longer offer GacoPro, instead offering APOC Roof Restoration products that provide joint reinforcement and protection for felt, metal, concrete, timber and many more surfaces. This post has been updated with information on how to use APOC products on roofs.

It is extremely important to get the roof clean of surface rust, dust and any other foreign matter or debris, and dry. First remove heavy deposits of dirt, leaves and other debris from the roof, then inspect the entire roof surface and flashings for any open seams, tears, cuts, etc. Repair these flaws so water is not blown in under membrane during the cleaning process. Pressure wash (use only a wide fan tip – do not allow stream to tear into roof surface) roof with water and allow to dry completely.

Biological Control: Mould or mildew stains must be cleaned with a compatible cleaner prior to application.

Drying: After cleaning and rinsing the roof, ensure no dirt or debris is present. Allow surfaces to thoroughly dry. Examine roof, paying particular attention to areas of physical damage to determine that residual water has in fact dried before applying coating.

NOTE: Drying time depends on weather conditions such as temperature, humidity and air movement.

APOC bonds to Most Surfaces (including but not limited to):

  • Aged/Weathered Felt
  • Asphalt
  • BUR
  • Cap Sheet
  • Concrete Roofs
  • EPDM
  • Flat Roofs
  • Low-Pitched Roofs
  • Metal Roofs
  • Mod-Bit
  • Polyurethane Foam
  • Single-Ply Membranes
  • Steel Roofs
  • Thermoplastic Polyolefin (TPO)
  • Torch Down
  • WPB Plywood

Repair all leaks and cracks before applying any coating. Make repairs with polyester reinforcing fabric or APOC Heavy Duty All-Purpose Incredible Tape and APOC 581 Silicone Roof Patch. Allow repair to cure according to product directions before application of roof coating.

When using reinforcing fabric, patch entire damaged area and extend 5cm – 8 cm beyond damaged area. Embed reinforcing fabric into the repair while wet. Apply second layer of patch, brushing over and into embedded fabric. When using Incredible Tape, adhere tape to damaged area and saturate with 581, extending 5cm – 8 cm beyond damaged area.

For applications over asphalt roof surfaces, APOC 583 primer or comparable product can be used as a base coat for stain blocking protection.

APOC 576 Premium Silicone Roof Coating is a 100% silicone, extremely reflective roof coating for flat and low slope roofs or areas where ponding water may occur.

  • Mix well before applying. A power drill mixing tool is ideal.
  • Confirm all dew or moisture has completely dried from the roof before applying. Best applied on a clear, dry day with warming temps between 1°C and 48°C.
  • Use a quality, heavy duty 20mm nap paint roller or professional airless sprayer.
    • 13789.5 – 20684.2 kPa
    • 0.762 -1.041mm Tip Size
    • 3.785 – 11.356 l/min
Can also be applied with a brush for smaller-scale projects.
  • APOC 576 can be applied in one coat to surfaces in good condition. Recoat rough or damaged areas as needed.
  • Can be applied in a wide temperature range, from +1°C to +48°C . Rain safe in 15 minutes at 21°C & 50% relative humidity.
  • Clean-up with VM&P naphtha, xylene or mineral spirits.

APOC Roof Restoration Systems dramatically cool roofs, lower heat transfer to buildings, reduce energy consumption and ultimately extend the life of your roof.

Do not heat or thin, and keep container sealed when not in use. Product must be kept out of sunlight, protected from the elements and in areas where air flows freely and is not restricted.

Shelf life is up to 18 months from date of manufacturer for unopened containers. For maximum shelf life, store between 10°C and 26°C. Storage at temperatures outside these conditions or at relative humidity over 65% will reduce shelf life. Storage longer than 6 months may require additional mixing.

Tightly seal container after opening and when not in use. Opened containers should be used within 3 – 5 days after opening. If a skin forms, remove prior to mixing material.

Approvals and Certificates

Exceeds performance requirements of ASTM D6694, ASTM D7281 .

APOC Silicone Roof Coating will last up to 20 years when applied to intended surfaces.

  1. Our house has a foam roof, no leaks, some low slopes, some irregular surface. Would GACO sealant be suitable? Any info appreciated.

    • Hi John,

Many thanks for the question. Provided the roof is sprayed polyurethane foam, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned prior to application. Then we would recommend 2 coats of GacoPro Roof Coating be applied to offer a waterproofing system with a 20yr Warranty.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch.

      Many thanks
      Stuart

  2. The second coat of Gaco was going on mostly , but at the end it rained slightly the roofers left and I’ll be able to check this morning. They left the top of the garage not done. It is clear this morning can I go on roof to inspect and remove tape on skylights and drain, more rain is expected this afternoon.
Please help me. I’m alone and need some answers asap

    • Hi Gwen,

Thank you very much for taking the time to read our blog and for your question. We wouldn’t recommend you walk on the coating as this is a soft coating and it could be damaged by foot traffic.

We would suggest you contact your contractor and ask them to come back and check/remove any tape for you and for you not to go up yourself.

I hope this helps and please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions.

      Many thanks
      Stuart
