You might not be aware of this fact, but at Rawlins Paints we stock many high profile brands and products. Many of these brands have been used for well-known landmarks and projects! For instance, did you know that the Golden Gate Bridge has been painted with both Sherwin Williams as well as Rust-Oleum paints? If the paint is good enough to withstand such extreme exposure to the elements, it will be perfect for other industrial projects as well.
In order to give these VIP brands and the projects they have been involved in over the years some coverage, we will be posting articles to explore some of these great brands. Please read on for the first post in this series where we are discussing some of the amazing products and projects by Rust-Oleum.

As with all major projects, manufacturers get the chance to bid on projects to recoat major landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge. Both Sherwin Williams and Rust-Oleum have once gained the honour of helping to renovate the Golden Gate Bridge. When Rust-Oleum was involved, they first used Mathys Pegalink Universal Adhesion Primer before coating the bridge with Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde.
Pegalink is ideal for this type of substrate as it’s designed to adhere to smooth surfaces such as galvanised steel, copper & hard PVC. These properties made it exceptionally suitable for the Golden Gate Bridge. Pegalink is usually only available in white, but due to our special mixing equipment Rawlins Paints is able to supply Mathys Pegalink in virtually every RAL and BS colour.
After the Golden Gate Bridge was sufficiently primed with Pegalink, they followed it up with three coats of Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde. Noxyde is a single-component paint that is specifically designed for easy application via a spray system. It will provide the same level of exceptionally hard wearing protection as other complicated and more expensive polyurethane systems. Noxyde is unrivalled in its rust-proofing, corrosion and waterproofing protection properties. Noxyde offers more than 15 years’ protection in the highest corrosion class C5-M. It is no wonder then that this product was deemed fit for purpose to recoat the Golden Gate Bridge.
Steel Roof, Exeter, UK
A little closer to home, Mathys Noxyde has been used to cover the metal roof of a large warehouse in Exeter. With a total project size of 6000 square meters, it was a nicely sized project (though obviously not as large scale as the Golden Gate Bridge!). In order to renovate the roof and give it the best protection possible, the company decided Mathys Noxyde was the only way to go due to those amazing protective properties. To prepare for this rust-proofing and waterproofing paint, the roof was first cleaned with Rust-Oleum Mathys ND14 cleaner & degreaser. It is a great cleaner as it removes oils, grease, proteins, dirt and many more surface contaminants. This makes it perfect for surfaces such as roofs that will be subject to a wide variety of contaminants.
After the roof surface was cleaned and degreased, the roof was coated in two layers of Mathys Noxyde to provide excellent rust, corrosion and weather protection for many years to come.
Parking Garage Steps, The Netherlands
Rust-Oleum do not only have killer paint products that can be used on both large and smaller scale projects, their slip protection product range is also very versatile and suitable for many applications. Recently, Rust-Oleum’s SuperGrip Tread Covers have been used to update stairs in a parking garage in the Netherlands. This is a surface likely to see much foot traffic, so it goes to show that SuperGrip Step Covers have been designed with safety and durability in mind.
SuperGrip Step Covers are easily fixed in place with glue and screws. The covers will cover the entire step with a hard wearing GRP panel that have a corrosion, chemical and slip resistant surface. These covers can be used for worn steps or to upgrade slippery steps with a safer surface. They are fully DDA compliant and satisfy current Building Regulations. This means they are ideal for a wide variety of projects and purposes: commercial, industrial or even domestic projects.
These are just three examples of Rust-Oleum’s many projects and uses. Rust-Oleum has also regularly been used on similar large scale high profile projects: from zoos, universities, food processing plants, factories, ranches and even correctional facilities. It is easy to see why we are proud to stock such a high quality brand here at Rawlins Paints. Please keep your eye peeled for the second post in this series where we will highlight one of our other amazing brands.
