Can these repair products be used on damp or wet surfaces?

Yes, several cementitious and resin-based systems are moisture-tolerant or even designed for use in damp conditions, whilst building chemicals such as primers and additives can be used to alter curing times and adhesion. These are ideal for basement walls, external slabs, or areas exposed to weather. However, surface preparation remains critical - clean, sound, and properly profiled substrates are essential.

How deep can I apply a concrete repair mortar in one go?

This depends on the product. Some mortars are formulated for high-build applications and can be applied in thick layers (up to 100mm or more), while others are for surface repairs only. Always check the product’s technical data sheet for maximum build and guidance on layering.

Is a primer required before applying a repair mortar?

Often yes. Bonding primers improve adhesion between the repair mortar and the substrate. Some products are self-priming, but in high-stress or high-moisture environments, a primer is usually advised. Refer to the individual product instructions.

Can I coat over the repair afterwards?

What surface preparation is needed before applying a concrete repair product?

All loose, dusty, or unsound material must be removed. Substrates should be clean, dry or suitably damp, and mechanically prepared - usually by grinding, scabbling, or shotblasting - to ensure keying. Oil, grease, or laitance must be removed.

Can I use these on vertical or overhead surfaces?

Yes. Thixotropic mortars are designed for non-sag application to vertical and overhead areas. These products stay in place during curing and are ideal for soffits, beams, and concrete columns.
