Ensure exterior wood has the best protection with a preservative, before applying a finish coat on top. Some resinous and ingredient-rich woods require preserving treatment to help seal them for exterior use. We stock products for sealing knots (patent knotting) and for treating woodworm and dry rot.
Osmo recommends using Osmo WR Base Coat on Accoya, Kebony, Pine, Spruce, and Douglas Fir before applying Osmo UV-Protection Oil, for example. This gives extra protection against rot, insect attack, and blue stain, as well as extra water repellency.

What is the difference between wood treatment and preserver?
Even the most rot-resistant wood species will eventually become vulnerable to decay due to exposure to the weather. Using a wood preserver will help protect exterior wood against degradation attacks. This includes woods used in areas prone to frequent damp from rain such as fences, window frames and doors, cladding, outdoor furniture, decking, and more.
Wood treatments stop attacks and further degradation including blue stain, rot, dry rot, and infestations from woodworms.
