Tor Unicover S (RC305) has been developed for the fast and cost effective refurbishment of architectural cladding. In many cases the system can be applied in 1 coat. It allows re-colouring for corporate re-branding or change of ownership or simply extends the life cycle of the cladding. Tor Unicover S (RC305) is a high build protective finish for renovation of factory coated profile metal vertical cladding panels, roofing trims etc in moderate environmental locations. Single pack smooth finish based on a specially modified acrylic/urethane resin system containing inert pigments and extenders.

What Does it Do?

- It allows re-colouring for corporate re-branding or change of ownership or simply extends the life cycle of the cladding. The product is made on the Tor CS2 tinting scheme, which allows a single 5 litre to be tinted to the desired shade. This makes the product very useful for coloured roof edgings, trims and capping details, where smaller volumes of material are needed.
Where can it be used?
Primarily designed for the refurbishment and redecoration of vertical cladding materials such as plastisol. Other substrates such as PVDF / thermoset enamels will require special primers. As cladding refurbishment is dependant wholly on condition, we recommend asking for a free site survey to assess your building. This service provides you with a full site specification for your project.
Can be used on: Retail Stores, Warehouses, Manufacturing units, Distribution Units, any Commercial / Retail / Industrial building which utilises architectural cladding.
Method of Application
Brush or airless spray (can be roller applied to large flat panels etc). Stripe coat all vulnerable areas, (edge, panel ends, bolt heads, etc) and allow to dry overnight before main coat application. Apply one or two full coats as necessary. Ensure good coverage especially vulnerable areas - see "limitations". Slight thinning (2-5% solvent addition) is permissible to aid application where necessary.
Important: Inspect all elevations of the building - condition of (say) North and South facing cladding may differ considerably.
Ensure surfaces are sound, clean and dry before coating, and any existing coatings are sufficiently resilient for overcoating. Remove surface contaminants by detergent scrubbing or high pressure power washing. Remove any moss, lichen, algae etc using Torkill W Fungicidal Solution (DM405). Ensure any existing coatings are adhering firmly to the substrate. Remove any residual chalking (if present) by vigorous rubbing etc with a fine scouring pad (eg. "Scotchbrite), and any other surface leachates or residues (particularly on plasticised PVC coatings) by either vigorous wiping with Tor Standard Urethane Thinners (TH99) or vigorous scrubbing with strong alkali detergent (eg. Torstrip WDA10 Wash Down Agent (SS4200005)) followed by thorough rinsing. Note: Abrasion of PVDF coatings (other than around loose or corroded areas) with fine hard abrasives should be avoided as this may polish the surface and impair adhesion of subsequent coatings - white aluminium oxide (80 mesh or coarser) or other suitable hard sharp mineral abrasive paper recommended to ‘cut’ and roughen coatings.
Scrape back any loose or weakly bonded materials and prepare to a firm feathered edge, and abrade exposed metal to remove corrosion products and provide a mechanical "key". Spot prime all bare metal areas with Tor Elastaseal Z Metal Primer (RC145) as appropriate. Stripe coat vulnerable areas (drip edges, exposed boltheads, panel edges etc) with Tor Elastaseal Fibretex (RC104) and leave overnight before applying main coat.
- Do not apply if rain is imminent.
- Overcoating should be carried out within the timescale stated on the product data sheet to promote maximum intercoat adhesion and avoid film defects.
- Surfaces must be clean.
- Depending on existing surface colour or pigmentation of Unicover S finish, some colours may require an additional coat to give full opacity.
- This product may have limited durability in aggressive (eg. heavy chemical atmospheres, severe climatic changes) environments. Contact the Technical Department for advice on alternative systems.
