Surface Preparation
Fresh Plastisol (less than 1 month weathering) should be solvent washed with White Spirit prior to coating
Weathered Plastisol (more than 1 month weathering) should be primed with ViterClad Bonding Coat prior to applying ViterClad PV (see Product Notes)
HPS200 Plastisol: ViterClad PV is not suitable for HPS200 Plastisol, which is recognised by its minute ‘dot’ appearance, rather than the ‘leathery’ fine surface texture of traditional (HP200*) Plastisol. For overcoating HPS200, use ViterClad 50 or M50
Galvanising or aluminium – should be prepared by degreasing and the removal of oxidation back to a firm substrate with no powdery deposits, and primed with a suitable primer such as ViterClad Bonding Coat – please consult Axalta Coating Systems for advice
Surfaces should be clean, dry and free from all grease, oil and general contamination
Mixing
Must be mixed thoroughly by using a mechanical agitator before use.
Agitate periodically to ensure paint remains homogeneous.
Only apply in conditions of good ventilation which must be maintained during drying and curing.
Do not apply when rain, mist, sleet or snow are imminent.
During application and drying time of the paint coating, the surface should be dry, the Relative Humidity should not exceed 85% and the steel temperature should remain at least 3℃ above the dew point.
Paint temperature should ideally be at a minimum of 15℃.
Application Methods
Airless Spray: Output fluid pressure at tip 2700-3100 psi, Tip Size 17-27 thou (043.-0.68 mm)
Conventional spray – not recommended
Brush/roller – use as supplied
Dependent on temperature, the product may be thinned up to 10% using 1006 Thinner to aid application properties
Product Notes
A system normally consists of ViterClad Bonding Coat followed by two coats of ViterClad PV. In some instances ViterClad PV can be applied directly to sound Plastisol surfaces - please consult Axalta Coating Systems/Rawlins Technical for further advice
For optimum longer term performance, ViterClad 50 is recommended
For best opacity, particularly with bright tinted colours such as bright yellows, oranges and reds, this product should be applied over a primer or intermediate coat tinted to the recommended undercoat shade – please consult Axalta Coating Systems/Rawlins Technical for details
This coating has not been tested to the standard of the new regulation 7(2) of the Building Regulations 2010, which came into force in Dec 2018
