Renovate and transform furniture with Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint. With a classic, smooth touch, flat matt finish, it brings a new lease of life to tired, worn-out objects. Simply choose from one of the 25 wonderful shades and paint your furniture, finishing with a layer of Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax or Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer.
Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint can be used directly onto wood (bare or painted), brick, stone, plaster or any suitably primed rigid surface (metal, plastic etc).
Create a distressed look by applying two coats in contrasting colours then sanding/scouring when dry, then use Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax or Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer to protect the look.
For best results, ensure surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If wax has been used, clean the surface thoroughly with White Spirit. We recommend that bare wood is sanded before painting.
Stir thoroughly prior to use. The product may be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rollering, use a short nap mohair roller. To create a distressed look, apply two even coats in contrasting colours. Allow to dry then lightly abrade with moistened sand paper or a stainless steel scouring pad - abrade with the grain of the wood. Protect the paint effect with Rust-Oleum Furniture Finishing Wax or Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer.
Not for use directly onto metal. Not a stain-blocking product. Prime any surfaces where stain bleed may be an issue, including knots. If unsure, test on an inconspicuous area before painting. Not recommended for outdoor use.
Hi, how long do I need to let the paint dry before adding my first layer of lacquer? And how long in between lacquer coats? Thanks.
Lisa from Bridgwater (England ) - 22/03/17
4 hours before you can overcoat Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint with the Rust-Oleum Furniture Lacquer, then overnight between coats for the Furniture Lacquer itself.
Can your paints be mixed together - such as white into a colour to get a paler shade?
Lynne from Leeds (UK) - 05/02/17
Yes this will be OK but the paints are quite thick and will need to be mixed thoroughly. Avoid mixing really dark colours with white as the paint may not mix in completely, better to add white to a lighter colour. This will also be at your risk. As always, we advise doing a small test mix first to check colour and to make sure the paint has mixed in completely. Apply a coat of the paint and check to see the colour has mixed in evenly, colour will be different when it dries so best to wait until it is dry before adjusting the colour further.
Hi, I just wanted to know is the chalk furniture paint suitable to use on glass? Thanks.
Amber from Birmingham (England) - 26/12/16
Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint will not adhere to glass directly so the glass would need to be primed with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 first.
Is Rustoleum chalky furniture paint suitable for nursery furniture such as a baby cot/crib or a toddler's set of drawers and or wardrobe/cupboard? If advertising a product painted in this can it be said that it has low toxicity levels ? As for example Annie Sloan chalk paint claims?
Michelle Bond from Morden (United Kingdom) - 07/08/16
Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint is tested to toy safety standards but we don’t recommend its use on cots, toys, etc. where a child may chew or suck the painted surface. The paint is moisture sensitive therefore it will dissolve in their mouth. Wardrobes and cupboards may be OK as there is less chance of these items being chewed but that would be up to end user to decide.
The Rust-Oleum Satin Finish Furniture Paint and Rust-Oleum Gloss Finish Furniture Paint are both suitable for these applications. They won’t come off easily and are also tested to Toy safety regulations.
Do you have a printed colour chart that has the exact colour sample swatches on itavailable please?
Beverley Lloyd from Frodsham (UK) - 27/07/16
Can I use chalky finish furniture on my metal bedstead. DO I simply sand this lightly first?
Gail wilkinson from Newcastle (England ) - 11/06/16
If the metal surfaces are all previously painted in good condition then yes, a light sand and clean down is all that is required before application of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint. If the metal is currently unfinished or you expose areas of bare metal while carrying out your preparation we would recommend priming these areas first with a coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.
Could I use chalk paint on my tired pine kitchen units?
valerie from robertsbridge (united kingdom) - 25/04/16
Yes, we would recommend priming the units with Zinsser B-I-N if they are bare wood or previously varnished/stained. If they are previously painted you can simply lightly sand the existing paint to provide a key and apply Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint directly.
Is this product suitable for the treads on a wooden staircase. How would it take foot traffic in a domestic environment, socks and slippers
bob hollis from doncaster (england) - 05/04/16
This product isn't suitable for use on any floor areas but Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Floor Paint would be ideal.
What is the coverage of Rust-Oleum Chalky Finish Furniture Paint in metric?
Jeff from Plymouth (UK) - 11/11/15
Up to 14m² per litre / per coat. Coverage may vary depending upon method and rate of application and porosity of the surface.
