Jotun Chemflake Special is a glass flake reinforced unsaturated vinyl ester coating. It is an ultra high build, extremely chemical resistant and fast curing barrier coating that can be used as primer, mid coat or finish coat in atmospheric and immersed environments. Suitable for properly prepared carbon steel and concrete substrates.
Jotun Chemflake Special is specially designed as an internal lining for offshore, onshore and buried tanks and pipes such as chemical tanks, flue gas ducts, cooling towers, funnels, pipes, waste water, grey water, concrete bound, pressure vessels, etc. Specially suitable in acidic conditions, refer to the Protective Product Resistance List. Recommended for areas subject to extreme chemical exposure and mechanical wear and where future maintenance is challenging.
Features & Benefits
- Chemical and acid resistant
- Rapid cure
- Ultra high build range up to 600–750μm per coat
- 1–2 coat system
- Resistant against crude oil up to 90°C
- Temperature resistance 85°C in seawater
Specifically designed for lasting, economical protection of storage tanks
Jotun Chemflake Special is an advanced glass flake reinforced vinyl ester coatings that outperform traditional systems. Protects the internal surfaces of the tank from corrosion and will also protect the stored product from contamination.
Less downtime, greater savings
Jotun Chemflake Special is designed to deliver major reductions in application time and short curing time. Where severe chemical resistance is needed, two coats are necessary. The reduced overcoating interval means substantial time saving. In some cases only one coat may be required.
IMPORTANT: Jotun additives MUST be bought with this product to ensure drying and correct use. Please refer to the product Technical Data Sheet for information on which additives and how much of each are required. If in doubt, please contact our Technical Department on 0113 2455450.

Hello, I’m a project engineer working within the nuclear industry. Just an enquiry regarding this product that may be suitable for coating a mild steel ladder that is required to be used within a radioactive pond that also has acids and caustic within the water. Is Jotum Chemflake coating a product that would be suitable for these environments?
The Chemical parameter values for Sizewell A ponds over last 12 months were:
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We would instead advise Tankguard Storage - 2 x 150 microns DFT applied to an Sa 2.5 abrasive blasted surface and when full cured would suit. Maximum liquid temperature would be +40 deg C.
