Surface Preparation
Thinning
Product should not be thinned
Mixing
Mix before application to assure uniform colour and consistency
Power mixing is recommended
Do not use a paint shaker to mix
Pot Life
Once a container of GacoPro is opened, the curing process has started
Use the entire product on your project if possible
Allow any remaining product in the container to solidify and dispose of in accordance with all waste disposal requirements applicable in your region
Surface Preparation
It is extremely important to get the roof clean and dry
First remove heavy deposits of dirt, leaves and other debris from the roof using broom or air broom, then inspect the entire roof surface and flashings for any open seams, tears, cuts, etc.
Repair these flaws so water is not blown in under membrane during the cleaning process
Pressure wash roof with water and allow to dry completely
For general cleaning, apply a suitable Concentrated Cleaner according to label instructions
On all single-ply membrane roofs, after application of cleaner, power scrub the roof surface until clean and then power wash to remove debris and continue rinsing until all suds are gone
Biological Control:
Areas of algae, mildew or fungus on the roof membrane or the existing coating should be treated with a solution of 1 part household bleach and 3 parts water, followed by a power washer rinse using clear water
Drying:
After cleaning and rinsing the roof, ensure no dirt or debris is present
Allow surfaces to thoroughly dry to prevent blistering
Examine roof, paying particular attention to areas of physical damage to determine that residual water has fully dried before applying coating
NOTE: Drying time depends on weather conditions such as temperature, humidity and air movement
Priming
GacoPro will adhere to most surfaces without a primer. However, some substrates may require a primer for optimal adhesion
An adhesion test is recommended to ensure adequate adhesion
If the test reflects poor adhesion, prime all surfaces with a suitable primer*
On aged asphalt surfaces (Please note: Light Grey is not suitable for this application), apply a suitable 'bleed trap' Base Coat* to help prevent bleed-through of asphaltic oils into the finished coating. When a primer is necessary, apply the 'bleed trap' Base Coat prior to primer application (EXCLUDING GRAVEL-SURFACED BUR MEMBRANES)
Do not apply in temperatures below freezing, above 120 °F (49 °C) or if rain is expected within 2 hours
Do not walk on GacoPro other than for periodic maintenance
A minimum of 2 coats are required
A minimum Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 22 mils must be achieved
Ensure complete coverage during application
Mix prior to application to ensure uniform colour and consistency
Flat Roofs less than 1:12 Pitch (5°)
Use a solvent-resistant 0.75 in (19 mm) or 1 in (25 mm) nap roller cover and depending on type of roof, dip roller directly into pail and apply, or pour product onto flat roof surface and roll out evenly
For very smooth surfaces, pour out product and spread with an 0.125 in (3 mm) notched squeegee then immediately back roll for a smooth, even finish
Pitched Roofs greater than 1:12 Pitch (5°)
Follow all safety guidelines to avoid injury
Use a solvent-resistant 0.75 in (19 mm) or 1 in (25 mm) nap roller cover, dip roller directly into pail, and apply
A roof pitch greater than 4:12 (19°) is not considered walkable; additional reach equipment may be needed to properly apply the product safely and effectively
Allow the first coat to dry for 3-12 hours
Apply second coat as soon as the first coat can be safely walked on
The coverage rate of GacoPro is 100 ft² / gal (9.3 m² / 3.8 L) in each coat on a smooth surface; coverage rate may decrease on textured surfaces, and more coating will likely be used on first coat than on additional coats
Smooth roofs can be completed in 2 coats, lightly textured surfaces often 3 coats, and heavily textured surfaces may require 4 coats to achieve a minimum Dry Film Thickness (DFT) of 22 mils
Clean Up
Application tools and equipment can be cleaned with a suitable silicone solvent* or 100% Pure Mineral Spirits
NOTE: Once a container of GacoPro is opened, the curing process has started. Use the entire product on your project if possible. Allow any remaining product in the container to solidify and dispose of in accordance with all waste disposal requirements applicable in your region
Maintenance
Roof structures may settle over time
A periodic inspection of your roof, which includes transition areas, flashing, vents and skylights, is recommended
Keep drains cleared at all times
Roofs become slippery when wet
Use extreme caution
Do not recoat GacoPro with acrylic, urethane or Hypalon coatings
Recoat cleaned GacoPro only with more GacoPro

Question:
hi i want to use this product GacoPro Roof Coating on a metal corrugated roof 5 metres x 5 metres ? will this product seal the overlaps be able to cover flash band and cope with expansion and shrinkage of the metal , would one coat be sufficient many thanks
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the metal roof is bare metal, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet and primed with GacoFlex E5320 2-Part Epoxy Primer/Filler it can be used.
this is solar reflective so should aid with reducing thermal contraction and expansion, it is also remains flexible in varying temperatures.

Question:
I Have a felt roof which is painted over with reflecting paint. would this Gaco Pro paint cover this surface .the area is 150 sq feet how much do I require to cover this area. Thanks
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint can be applied directly to many substrates and existing roof coatings, we would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full applicaton on the painted roof.
Assuming this goes well, the roof is clean, dry. sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this could be used.
For 2 coats of 150ft² you will require approximately 11.5ltr.

Question:
Hi I need to address blowback under tiles for a shallow pitch shed roof. Considering stripping back the tiles and forming a draining 'box' section under the roof from additional vertical battens and drainage gaps in horizontal battens and then covering roof and battens with Gaco before reinstating tiles giving a waterproof under roof as well. Will Gaco go over the underlying roof (strand board or ply) with batten to roof seams sealed with roof tape successfully? Any primer needed and would liquid or fixed roof tape be needed?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
GacoPro Roof Coating can be applied to plywood directly but we recommend 3 coats are applied instead of the usual 2.

Question:
I have a fiberglass roof about 22 years old. Should I start thinking about replacing roof or should I paint it with solar reflective paint? Thanks Dave
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We can't advise on whether you need to replace your roof or not, you would need to refer to a local roofer for advice on that. However if the roof is found to be OK then GacoPro Roof Coating would be an excellent way of extending the life.

Question:
Hi, you state that the white can reflect 85% of the sun's rays but can you tell me what the grey will reflect. Thanks.
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
We do not have any reflectivity factors for the grey, but the darker the colour, the more heat it will absorb which means that grey would be a lot better than black felt etc, but the white would ultimately be the most reflective.
