Jotun Demidekk Ultimate Helmatt is a high quality, water soluble, opaque wood protection coating for exterior use, based on AMA (Alkyd Modified Acrylics) technology. The advanced binder technology in Demidekk Ultimate Helmatt gives the paint very good colour stability and long mainitenance intervals. The product gives the substrate a completely mat, elegant apperance which contains effective film conserving agents that counteract mould growth on the substrate.

Jotun Demidekk Ultimate Helmatt is easy to apply and has a rich consistency. Recommended for new primed, previously stained or painted exterior woodwork.

Preparation
The substrate must be clean, sound and dry: Fresh wood left untreated for more than 4-6 weeks should be cleaned using a suitable cleaning agent and brushed with a wire brush. Previously treated wood should be cleaned using a suitable cleaning agent. Observe use instructions. Remove loose paint and wood fibres by wire brush or scraping.

Substrates previously treated with limewash must be treated the same way as other previously painted substrates. However, the pretreatment must be done with extra care. Limewash paints are loosely bound paints with a small amount of binder. This will cause chalking, which means that the substrate will be dusty and release colour when touched. To obtain a good substrate, remove as much old limewash as possible by washing, brushing/scraping. The substrate is also often infected with algae and mildew so a suitable anti fungal treatment should be applied according to directions to brushed/scraped substrate. Bare spots (from drybrushing/scraping) to be primed with either Jotun Visir Clear Primer or Jotun Visir Pigmented Primer. There is a great risk that pigment residues on the substrate after thorough pretreatment, may penetrate the new paint layer. Thefore, a colour close to the origin is recommended. If a significant colour changes is desired (lighter colour), the substrate should be sealed with a suitable stain blocking primer prior to application.

Pre-treatment
Apply a suitable anti fungal treatment in accordance with the user instructions.

Primer
Bare, fresh wood to be primed with 1 coat Jotun Visir Pigmented Primer. Use Jotun Visir Clear Primer during the cold season when the air and surface temperature is below +5°C. The primer must be brushed out thoroughly. Apply 3-4 coats wet-on-wet to the end grains/cut surfaces.

Topcoat
New, planed woodwork: 3 coats Demidekk Ultimate Helmatt. Previously treated and new, unplaned/rough woodwork: 2 coats Demidekk Ultimate Helmatt.

NOTES
Contents of tins with different production numbers should be mixed. Stir well before and during use. Coating on fire protected cladding may cause salt precipitation/flaking. Previous tar/mineral oil treatment and knots may cause discolouration/blistering of the topcoat. Perform a test application. Sun on semi-dry paint may cause skin drying and sun blisters. Condensation may cause dull patches. Linseed oil may cause blistering of future paint layers. Please be aware of linseed oil/moisture problems. To ensure long durability it is important to apply a sufficient amount of paint on edges and planed surfaces. Min. 3 coats (100 μm dry paint film).
