Description

We no longer stock this product, but can recommend Eagle DoubleCoat Pro-Reflect Liquid Waterproofing as a great alternative.

Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium is a blend of rubber, polymer modified bitumen, aluminium and fibre reinforcement. For the refurbishment or repair of porous asbestos, corrugated iron, concrete, tiled and felted roofs.

Features & Benefits

  • Textured finish
  • Exterior use
  • Bitumen based
  • Fibre reinforced
  • Contains reflective aluminium

Preparation

Surfaces should preferably be as dry as possible. Emergency patch repairs can however be successfully completed to surfaces with running water. Remove any loose material and dirt. Very porous, dry surfaces should be primed with Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium diluted with 25% white spirit. A wire brush should be used to remove all traces of moss etc. A fungicide like Blackfriar Anti-Mould Solution or Concentrated Fungicidal Wash may be required for heavily contaminated surfaces. Specialist advice must be sought when dealing with old asbestos/cement roofs.

Application

Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium should be applied generously by brush at the rate of 1m²/L per coat. If a second coat is required it should be applied at right angles to the first coat. Do not brush out to a thin film.

Cracks, splits, holes and leaks around roof sheet overlaps should be treated in the following manner. Apply a generous coat of Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium and immediately bed in a strip of scrim cut to a suitable size. Apply a further coat of Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium over the scrim using a stippling action and leave to cure. Deep pits and cracks in flat concrete roofs should be filled prior to coating.

Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium is not suitable for coating bare wooden substrates in order to form a waterproofing seal. Entrapped moisture on porous surfaces may cause blistering in warm weather or spalling at low temperatures. Only limited emergency patch repairs should therefore be made to porous surfaces while wet. Not suitable for use on EPDM rubber roofs. Check compatibility with other surfaces if in doubt.

Coverage Rate

1m²/litre per coat. Two coats recommended.

Roof overlaps and cracks, splits and holes will require a heavier application ideally with the use of scrim.

Drying Time

  • 16-24hrs @ 20°C. Allow to dry for a minimum of 24hrs @ 20°C between coats.
  • Full cure is achieved in 5-7 days @20°C.
  • Note: Curing will only commence once any surface water has evaporated.

Clean Up

Remove as much product from application equipment as possible before washing with White Spirits. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

Question:

Please could you tell me what sort of percentage solar reflection this paint provides Thank you

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately not as no information is provided by the manufacturer for this. GacoPro Roof Coating states that the product in Solar Reflective White will reflect over 85% of the sun’s rays.

Question:

Can this solar paint be applied by roller

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Blackfriar Professional Solar Reflective Paint Aluminium is a thick paint and the recommended spread rate is 1 litre per square metre. Using a brush helps to work the paint into the surface and eliminate air bubbles etc. You could try applying with a roller to get the bulk of the coating on followed by brushing to work it into the surface.
