We no longer stock this product, but can recommend 402 Damp Proof Coating as a great alternative.
Blackfriar Professional Damp Proof Primer is a moisture suppresent membrane for priming damp concrete floors and screeds. It helps prevent residual moisture seeping from the substrate, allowing earlier application of floor coatings.
Preparation
Ensure the surface to be painted is sound, clean, dry and free from grease or any substance liable to give adhesion problems. Scrape off any old or flaking paint until you have a firm surface. Special attention should be given to areas under cars to ensure all oil, grease, dirt and road salt is removed. New concrete should be allowed to cure to a compressive strength of at least 25N/mm² and laitance removed before applying Blackfriar Professional Damp Proof Primer.
Application
Stir base thoroughly before adding all of the activator then mix well. DO NOT MIX PART UNITS. Discharge immediately after mixing. Pot life is 20-30 minutes at 20°C. Apply with a brush, squeegee or roller working the paint in any surface imperfections. If necessary de-aerate using a spiked roller within 20 minutes of application.
Even substrates up to 90% relative humidity with existing subfloor Blackfriar Professional Damp Proof Primer can normally be satisfactorily stabilised by single coat application at a minimum dosage of 0.33L/m² (plus allowance for surface profile etc) to give a minimum overall thickness of 0.33mm at profile peaks. If in doubt apply a two coat system as below. Substrates up to 100% relative humidity and all rough surfaces should receive a minimum of two coats as follows:
First coat – Apply a full even coat at a minimum dosage of 0.26L/m² (plus allowances for surface profile, etc.) to give a minimum overall thickness of 0.25mm at profile peaks. Allow product to set before overcoating.
Second/subsequent coats – Apply a full even coat at right angles to the preceding coat at a minimum dosage of 0.2L/m² (plus allowances) to give a minimum overall thickness of 0.2mm). If necessary, apply a full dry silica sand scatter (nominal 60 mesh) to the wet final coat to assist adhesion of subsequent products. Do not apply at surface temperatures below 10°C or if overnight ambient temperatures are below 5°C.
Drying Time
6-16hrs @20°C. Allow to dry for a minimum of 16hrs @20°C and maximum 48 hrs @20°C between coats. Full cure is achieved in 5-7 days @20°C.
Clean Up
Small spillages can be cleaned up with Xylene. Allow brushes and rollers to cure and dispose of. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.
