Description

Blackfriar Professional Anti Graffiti Lacquer is an exterior, high performance solvent based lacquer that provides an easy-to-clean, permanent (non-sacrificial) polyurethane coating against multiple graffiti attacks. Allows problem areas to be cleaned easily and effectively.

Preparation

Ensure the surface to be painted is sound, clean, dry and free from grease, laitence or any substance liable to give adhesion problems. Scrape off any old or flaking paint until you have a firm surface. New concrete must be left for at least 6 months before applying Blackfriar Professional AntiGraffiti Lacquer.

Application

Stir base thoroughly before adding all of the activator then mix well. DO NOT MIX PART UNITS. Allow to rest for 5 minutes before using. Pot life is 4 hours at 20°C. Apply with a brush or roller working the paint in any surface imperfections. On bare porous surfaces first apply Blackfriar Water Based Floor Sealer followed by 2 coats of Blackfriar Professional Anti-Graffiti Lacquer. Do not apply it on concrete surfaces treated with alkali containing liquids, areas subjected to rising damp. Do not apply in cold (below 5°C), damp or humid conditions.

Can be used on hardwoods and plywood but not suitable over softwoods, (even if previously painted). Do not apply directly to metal. If applying over existing hard/glossy paint, abrade the surface with a fine abrasive paper to flatten down. Bare porous surfaces must be completely dry before the application of Blackfriar Professional Anti-Graffiti Lacquer (if in doubt use a moisture meter). Not suitable for use over masonry paints.

Clean Up

Allow brushes and rollers to cure and dispose of. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for the disposal of waste coatings.

Question:

Hi , i just want to know if it works on woods like ply wood. I want to protect my companies doors from permanent markers and pen inks? How do i clean of these stains, hope i don't need another solvents? Thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Blackfriar Professional Anti Graffiti Lacquer can be used on hardwoods and plywood but not suitable over softwoods (even if previously painted). If applying over existing hard/glossy paint, abrade the surface with a fine abrasive paper to flatten down. Bare porous surfaces must be completely dry before the application of Blackfriar Professional Anti Graffiti Lacquer (if in doubt use a moisture meter). A graffiti removal chemical would need to be used to remove any graffiti attacks after application of this coating.

Nu-Guard AG however is a unique anti-graffiti coating that protects all surfaces, including brick, concrete, render, stone, wood and plastic against all types of graffiti and poster glues. Once coated with Nu-Guard AG, nothing can stick to the surface. Nu-Guard AG is completely resistant to all paints, permanent markers and the majority of acids. Simply wash with water and graffiti disappears and posters just slide off, providing permanent protection against graffiti attack – without ghosting residue.

Question:

Dear peeps, We have just had an artist paint some metal panels in our local park using spray paint. It’s so beautiful we’d like to protect it, and we’re wondering if your anti graffiti lacquer is suitable to use on top of spray paint painted upon metal. Any help appreciated Many thanks Friends of eastville Park Bristol.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The solvents in Blackfriar Professional Anti Graffiti Lacquer are likely to attack and dissolve the spray paints.

Torlife WB satin PU865 or gloss PU862 clear lacquer could be used instead. This is a water based 2 pack and therefore less likely to react with the spray paints. You should still do a small test patch first, leave it for 15 minutes and check to see if it has had any effect on the edge detail of the spray paint. If it is OK after 15 mins you can carry on and paint the rest of the installation.

Assuming the metal surface is smooth, 2 coats of the lacquer would be required. If it is a rough textured surface, 3 coats of the Torlife WB should be allowed for.

As these alternatives are not listed currently on our website, please contact our sales team for pricing on 0113 2455450.
