Question: Hi there, I am using Mathys Fassilux Aqua XPE Satin - Colour: RAL1023 for painting wooden cupboard doors. The doors have been previously painted, so I sanded them down to roughen the surface for the paint to stick better, then applied Zinsser BIN shellac primer and then the Fassilux, as a thin layer (just one coat in places, two in others). A week on, and the paint still feels somewhat tacky. The same occurred on Zinsser BIN primed ply board - a week on, and still a bit tacky. Tacky to the extent that if you put one Fassilux painted surface touching another Fassilux painted surface, they stick to each other a bit. Is there anything I can do to speed up the drying process? Talcum powder? Some shelves I painted with Mathys Pegacryl Satin - Colour: RAL6027, same conditions, same time, happily accepted 2 coats, dried completely in 24 hours and are now done, whereas the Fassilux is still playing up... Thanks very much for your help!
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Please refer to the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) for each product which can be downloaded from the 'DATASHEETS' tab on each respective product page on our website. Here it states that Mathys Fassilux Aqua XPE Satin should be touch dry in 3 hours, recoatable after 24 hours and full hardness will be achieved after 1 week. Mathys Pegacryl Satin is quicker drying at touch dry in 1 hour, recoatable in 24 hours and full hardness will be achieved after 2 days. All estimated drying times are based on 20°C and 50% r.h., low temperatures, lack of air flow and high relative humidity will prolong the drying/curing process.
