    Question:

Hiya do they do murfill waterproof coating in clear, garage brickwork is already painted monarch red and I can't see this in your colour chart

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately no, but is can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours.

questions Maria Ryan on 2021-06-06 18:59:59
    Question:

Hi there - Is it OK to use the waterproof coating on an exterior wall that has already been rendered and painted? The paint is in good condition, but there is a problem with penetrating damp. Thanks for your help.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the wall and the previously applied coating is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet it can be applied.

If there are any bare areas of render this should be primed prior to application with Primer 44HS.

questions Abdulkareem Lafene  on 2021-03-15 09:43:38
    Question:

I have an exterior wall which has been painted previously, some of the paint has been scraped back to bare brick but some sound paint remains there are also patches of fresh mortar where the pointing has been repaired. Should I use a primer or can I paint directly onto the surface. Also will any primer affect breathability? Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes a primer will be required.

On bare porous substrates you will need to prime with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS or Mathys Pegafix.

If the bricks are non porous you will require Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegalink Universal Adhesion Primer.

These will not effect the breathability of the paint.

    questions Carol  on 2021-01-26 17:53:18
    Question:

I want to paint a new unpainted block wall suffering from water ingress How do I know which primer to use, pegafix or 558-rust-oleum-mathys-primer-44-hs

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

For application to a bare block work wall assuming it is porous, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet we would recommend priming with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS or Mathys Pegafix.

For previously painted surfaces Mathys Pegafix is recommend as solvents in Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS can effect existing paint.

    questions Alex  on 2020-11-17 18:45:43
    Question:

Is this paint suitable to apply to stone window ledges (external)? The existing paint has peeled off, so I would remove all the existing chipped paint and be applying to bare stone...?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the stone window ledge is clean, dry, and sound, then yes it can be used on the window ledge with the correct primer applied first.

If the stone is porous prime first with Mathys Pegafix.

If the stone is not porous priming with Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegalink Universal Adhesion Primer would be required.

    Question:

Can you use this paint, to paint a wooden fence

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This paint is design for masonry, assuming the timber fence is clean, dry and sound we can recommend Zanders PF59 Stain Blocking Primer Finish on bare timber followed by Wethertex OT25 Wood-Flex Satin Opaque Timber Paint.

    Question:

Hi Which paint would be better for a pebble-dashed wall, Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill or Zinsser Watertite ? Thank you Alistair

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing would be used in an external waterproofing application, Zinsser Watertite would be used internally only.

    Question:

Hi I want to use the rust olium murfil waterproof exterior paint on the side of my house but it's mid winter. How many clear day do I need? Do I need to apply on consecutive days and how much do I need for an 8m x 4m wall? Kind regards Nathan

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Application of a water based product like this would not be possible at this time of year. The minimum application temperature for Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating is 5°C and maximum 80% R.H.

    Drying Times At 20°C/RH 50%

    Question:

Is this product effective in use for waterproofing pebble-dashed walls? If so, what colour would be best so as to minimise the colour change?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating is suitable for use over pebbledash walls, depending on the level of porosity Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS may be required to prime the surface first. You can choose whichever colour you like from the range as this will not affect performance.

    Question:

Our home is externally painted with typical white paint (previous owners did this) What can we use to paint over/coat the exterior walls that are already painted that will waterproof the exterior walls?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating would be an excellent choice for this.

    Question:

I have recently repainted my house. There is a slight water penetration in a small area in very rainy conditions. Can I use the product and repaint over with ordinary masonry paint?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Ideally Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating should be left as the final finish. Overcoating with other masonry paints can cause issues due how flexible Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating remains over time.

questions ALEX FARMER on 2019-08-28 12:02:20
    Question:

Hi can Murfill waterproofing coating be used on timber as i'm looking to get the same colour on my timber cladding as i use on the house & If so do i need to pre-coat it with anything Regards Alex

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This is not something we would normally recommend, but it could be done if you wished so long as it was timber, and not hard woods and not varnished or similar. We wouldn’t use anything else prior to Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating, but certainly would dilute the first coat quite a bit to ensure it “sinks in” to the wood.

Preferably you would use a dedicated timber product for the wood areas such as Mathys Pegacryl Satin mixed to the same colour - yes there would likely be a slight colour variance but performance wise this would be much preferred.

questions ALEX FARMER on 2019-08-15 14:11:09
    Question:

Hi what is the best preparation for painting unpainted facing block ?? Regards Alex

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating can be applied directly on old (sound) paintwork after thorough brushing down. Chalking paints or new/unpainted substrates must be treated first with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS or with Mathys Pegafix, when the old paint coat (acrylic paint or Murfill Waterproofing Coating) is affected by the solvents of Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS. On smooth non-porous substrates apply a coat of Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegalink Universal Adhesion Primer or a coat of Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde (except for white) diluted with 25% water. Cracks < 0.5mm wide: fill up with Murfill Waterproofing Coating. Cracks > 0.5mm wide: fill up with Rust-Oleum Mathys Elastofill or Mathys Mur-Filler. Active cracks must be bridged with Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Reinforcement Fleece.

    Question:

I had Murfill Cream exterior "elastic" paint applied to my home 5 years ago and it still looks fresh apart from a gable end that gets direct weather. This gable is in need of a clean. What do recommend to clean it without affecting the integrity of the paint? Also, I had my window ledges painted in a reddish colour. Do you supply this? Thank you.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

We'd need more information on what you require for your window ledges if you wish to contact our Technical Team on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or [email protected], but to clean the existing surfaces coated with Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating we'd recommend a 2% concentration of Rust-Oleum Mathys ND14 Cleaner Degreaser.

    Question:

Is this product suitable for painting over Santex cream paint as a protector for damp on exterior walls? will it help to keep out rain water.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating is simple to apply on any exterior wall, this water based coating provides the highest protection and offers guaranteed waterproofing. It can be applied directly on old (sound) paintwork after thorough brushing down. Question:

We have recently purchased a new property with stand alone building built in 1990's - it has external concrete render which has never been painted for some reason. The interior walls have faint traces of damp after this recent wet weather - what is best - simple masonary paint or something stronger and more waterproofing. The render still looks in good condition.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

We would always recommend a high performance product like Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating. Once clean and dry the bare concrete render should first be primed with Rust-Oleum Mathys Primer 44 HS before the application of Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Mathys Murfill Waterproofing Coating can be applied directly on old (sound) exterior wall paintwork after preparation. It is elastic, crack bridging and 100% waterproof but will still allow the wall to breathe outwards.

Question: I want to use Murfill on concrete as the previous paint has peeled off, what primer should I use, the site is exposed and near the coast. Thank's

questions Matt Stocker on 2016-09-17 18:42:40
Question: I can't find the details of how long I need to allow for the paint to dry before it is waterproof and safe to be rained on. Just trying to plan around the weather! Data sheet only mentions handling time and recoat time, but no mention of waterproof time. If you'd be able to let me know, that would be great.
    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

When the full specified system has been applied (usually 1 x primer and 2 x Murfill Waterproofing Coating) and the final paint layer has dried sufficiently as per the Product Data Sheet (usually 24 hours at 20°C) then the system will be providing waterproof protection of the building.

In good drying conditions (20°C/50% R.H.) then Murfill Waterproofing Coating should be 'rain proof' after 6 hours. Please note that fluctuations in weather/conditions/temperatures/etc. will affect these estimates greatly.
