SC901 is a low VOC, one coat, high build two-pack system based on patented technology, providing a fast cure effective structural fire performance, for steelwork, up to a 120 minute fire rating.
SC901 provides an ultra fast curing fire protection coating for structural steel. SC901 is designed to provide upto 120 minutes fire resistance to ‘I’ section beams and columns, hollow columns, cellular beams, concrete filled hollow columns and solid steel rods.
As a fast-track coating, all 120 minute loadings are possible to apply in a single coat and weather resistant in one hour. SC901 can be used on steel, cast iron and galvanised steel. Nullifire SC901 is designed for shop application using twin component spray equipment.
Safety data sheet must be read and understood before use. Flammable - keep away from open flames and other ignition sources.

- Coat blasted steel within 2 weeks. All surfaces to be coated should be clean, dry and free from loose friable materials and any other contaminants likely to impair adhesion.
- Nullifire recommends and have tested a number of primers. Contact Rawlins Technical Support team on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or send a message to [email protected] for details
- The system is not suitable for use over single pack primers and compatibility with 2 pack primers should be checked with Nullifire/Rawlins Technical Services. For use over galvanised surfaces or other substrates please contact Nullifire/Rawlins Technical Services
Application Conditions
- Ensure adequate through ventilation during application
- Application temperature range -5°C to +35°C, relative humidity <95% and a steel surface temperature at least 3°C above the dew point
Application Equipment
Spray Equipment
- Graco XM Plural-Component Pump
- Note: All equipment used in conjunction with this pump must be suitably pressure rated at 7000 psi
- Ratio: 5.6:1 by volume
- Spraying Pressure: 3000-5000psi
- Remote mix manifold conversion kit
- In-line static spiral mixer (minimum of one)
- Flush Pump recommended
Spray Gun & Tips
- WIWA 500F Spray Gun
- XHD RAC Switch Tip Orifice size 0.019 to 0.023 inches
Part A Handling (Recommended)
- Graco Monark 5:1 Air Powered Transfer Pump
- Graco Heavy Duty Back Geared Drum Agitator
Mixing
- Always mechanically mix product in full pack volumes
- Ensure the two components are thoroughly combined until a uniform colour is obtained
Application
- Keep all product containers closed when not in use. Part B is moisture sensitive and should remain tightly closed before use
- The product is self-priming onto correctly prepared steelwork. Damaged primer does not need to be repaired in C1 or C2 environments
- The product should be spray applied at close proximity, approximately 600 mm from the surface, to avoid dusting and promote good surface coalescence
- Use of a wet film gauge is essential
Note: If the user needs to stop spraying for longer than 15 minutes flushing will be necessary
Site Work
- Galvanised bolts, once degreased, can be coated with no further preparation
- Damaged coatings can be trimmed to a feathered edge and the material trowelled in one application
- The applied product once cured can be easily finished to a high level, by sanding or tooling with either electrical or hand tools
- Repairs can be carried out using an S900 Repair Kit
Cleaning
- Flush spray equipment with FC150 or an equivalent xylene-based solvent, do not use solvents which contain water, as these can result in premature curing of the product in the spray line. Contact Technical Support if unsure of compatibility of cleaning agents.
Maintenance & Repair
- Damaged areas should be abraded back to a sound surface
- The surface should then be clean and dry before re-applying
- The SC900 repair kit should be used (sold separately) for repairing scratches and chips
- Once repaired top seal should be re-applied. Refer to Nullifire System SC900 Maintenance Instructions

Optifire+: Reliable and traceable fire protection
Optifire+ is a unique addition to Nullifire intumescent steel coatings that provides full transparency for:
- Applicators – Ability to ensure product installed on site is correct and to standards
- Main Contractors - Ability to ensure that specifications are been adhered to
- Architects and Specifiers - Ensuring your design projects comply to the latest building regulations and fire protection that is identifiable in future years
What is Optifire+ and how does it work?
Optifire+ is a unique and impossible to manipulate pigment. With Optifire+ we can be sure, at any time after the project is completed, that the product specified is the product applied – confidence that the materials submitted through the approval processes are installed to protect customer's assets.
Optifire+ is invisible to the naked eye and is added to Nullifire intumescent steel coatings. It can be identified with the traceability tool.
Why it is important
As a product identifier, Optifire+ doesn’t change the way intumescent coatings work. But it does stimulate that they are used and are applied correctly. Nullifire intumescent steel coatings can’t be altered without it being visible and application can be checked afterwards.
With Optifire+, Nullifire goes beyond what’s expected and further endeavours to keep residents and emergency services safe, and protect the buildings that they rely on.
Optifire+ is manufactured within the UK. These locally produced products are independently tested and certified according to the highest standard in the industry.
Legal
Building owners are now more than ever been urged to act and put the safety of residents first. There’s an increased focus and scrutiny on the effectiveness of fire protection strategies in commercial and residential buildings. Negligence or simply being unable to prove that the proper precautions have been taken means risking legal action.
