This Envirograf system offers a clear varnish solution to upgrade solid wood/timber doors to up to 30 minute fire resistance (subject to suitability) by using Envirograf intumescent coatings. These packs have been created to help users ensure they are purchasing sufficient materials for their project. Each pack contains the correct amount of Primer (Envirograf HWAP/WB Primer), Intumescent (Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating) and Topcoat (Envirograf HW Excel Clear Top Coat) to ensure protection is achieved inline with the manufacturers recommendations to the respective area in question.
These packs offer the clear varnish system ONLY, if you require intumescent card, mastic, hardware, etc. for your doors please contact the Technical Department. This system offers a clear primer, clear intumescent and clear topcoat sufficient for 4m², 10m² or 20m² of door surfaces. Fire and smoke seals should also be fitted to each door upgraded. Remember, intumescent varnish is just one element of protection and DOES NOT create a ‘fire door’. Intumescent materials and hardware MUST be used to ensure your doors meet the required standards of your authority.
If you are looking for a white or coloured finish, we also stock Fire Door Paint.
For doors requiring 60 minute fire resistance please contact the Technical Department on 0113 2455450 or [email protected]

Can you apply the paint/varnish system a to a prepainted solid wood door or do you need to remove the old paint?
We would normally advise the Envirograf Door Upgrade Paint System is OK to be used over sound, well adhered, cleaned and abraded normal existing paints and Envirograf Door Upgrade Varnish System is OK to be used over sound, well adhered, cleaned and abraded normal existing stains/varnishes.

Question: can you tell me if the fire resistant paint will be ok as 3 of our doors have a glass panel in? thankyou. mrs s donaldson
Timber elements of glazed doors can be protected with our Fire Door Varnish (30min) as long as the doors meet our minimum requirements - see full details in our 'Fire Door Systems Brochure' available to download from the 'DATASHEETS' tab on the product page.
All glass will have to be replaced with fire rated glass to the relevant standards.

Question: Reading your guide brochure it states the door must be 9mm thick in the panels. If I find my door is thinner than this is there anything that can be done or will the doors not be suitable?
The only solution in this situation to enable you to use our product would be to remove and replace the undersized panels to ones of adequate thickness.

Question: Hi, we have had a loft room fitted in our house and are trying to have the project signed off. The last stumbling block is the installation of fire doors throughout the property - 7 doors in all.
Your intumescent varnish would save us money and time but can I ask if it can be used on prevarnish doors or do the doors need to be stripped back to bare wood?
Do we need to employ an approved installer to complete the work or can a competent painter complete the works?
Our Fire Door Varnish (30min) does not require an approved contractor and can be applied by any competent applicator. The system can be applied over existing ordinary varnishes and stains, removal is not necessary just normal painting preparation (cleaning and sanding).

Question: Do the test results require an intumescent strips to make this a 30 minute fire door
Our Fire Door Varnish (30min) and Fire Door Paint (30min) have both been tested with intumescent strips and we do always recommend the use of them when upgrading doors. The issuing of our certification upon completion of the works is not however dependant upon the use of intumescent strips and if the appropriate authority on the project deems them not necessary, our certificate can still be issued.

Does this work on exterior doors?
Yes, it can be used on exterior doors but an additional coat of topcoat is required (not included in the pack). Please call our Technical Team on 0113 2455450 to discuss costs and quantities required should you wish to proceed.

Is the Fire Door Varnish (30min) suitable for application over oiled doors that are lightly sanded to provide a key?
Fire Door Varnish (30min) can be applied to previously oiled or waxed doors but only when the oil or wax has been completely removed. Light sanding will not be sufficient to ensure complete removal. We recommend using a proprietary cleaner like Timberex Oil & Wax Remover together with thorough sanding. Once complete, apply the Fire Door Varnish (30min) to a small test area to check adhesion is satisfactory before full application is undertaken.
