PLASTERBOARD
We issue a 30 min Fire Certificate to upgrade 9mm plasterboard and 60 min on 12.5mm plasterboard below voids below 22mm tongue & groove floors or as one side of a partition wall using the specification above, based on the evidence below.
Wallcoat Intumescent Paint added minimum 30 mins Fire Resistance to 12.5mm plasterboard in a 90 min indicative UKAS Fire Test Laboratory.
In all cases 25mm MDF was located 70mm behind the plasterboards in place of floor boards or a board typically the other side of a partition stud wall.
Temperatures were monitored on the protected face (facing away from the furnace) of the MDF, and char damage to the side of MDF facing the plasterboard was measured following the 90 min Fire Test. Char damage was 10 >12 mm, indicating unprotected exposure to fire of 15 > 20 mins during the 90 min period.
Insulation was maintained for 60 mins.

![]() | Question:
Will the fire protection be maintained if painted over with standard emulsion paint in the future? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This system is not meant to be over painted with a standard emulsion paint and retain the level of fire protection. There are occasions where Thermoguard Flame Retardant Additive can be used in a standard paint finish but confirmation must be sought through Thermoguard prior to purchase and application.
![]() | Question: Does this paint achieve the same fire rating on traditional plastered walls rather than plasterboard? |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: By 'traditional plastered' we assume you are referring to lath and plaster, in which case we would instead recommend considering Envirograf EP/CP Fire Protection Coating.
![]() | Question: do you have the paint in white and does it have a good coverage on plaster board |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Yes white is available in a Matt or Eggshell finish and the system has excellent opacity.
