questions Dave Allman on 08/02/2019

Hi I need to coat new roof trusses prior ti installation (pine) would ES/clear coat meet that requirement? Many Thanks Dave Allman

Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating as a system on timber is able to achieve British Standard Class 0 & 1 and EU standard B/s1/d0. You need to confirm that this is acceptable for your authority on this project, if not please advise and we can offer an alternative.

questions Alan Scott on 30/12/2018

can you paint over this product please.

At the time of this response, the application guide from the manufacturer available to download from our product pages states;

Application onto new wood – ensure the area is dust free. Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating can be applied by roller, brush or spray. If the wood is to be stained (any Sikkens or Jotun specialist product can be applied first or over Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating).

Application over existing paint or varnish – ensure the surface is thoroughly clean. Apply one coat of Envirograf ES/VFR Primer at 10-12m² per litre. Then apply Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating.

Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating must have a Top Protective Coating. IT MUST NEVER BE LEFT OVERNIGHT WITHOUT APPLYING THE TOP COAT.

NB. The coverage on the first coat could vary according to the density or type of timber. Proprietary paint / varnish can be used as a final finish if required. For suitable applications, contact our Technical Department. Trials in small areas must always be carried out prior to full application, as colour performance varies according to substrate structure.

Envirograf ES/VFR Hard Wearing Clear Top Coat is tough hard-wearing satin finish top coat for internal use.
Envirograf ES/VFR Translucent Top Coat is a spirit based product to enhance the natural beauty of the wood for internal and external use.

questions Katie hamer on 26/12/2018

Would it be suitable for painting over an acrylic design painted on a fire board on the wall behind a wood burner?

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not have a test where Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating has been applied over an acrylic design painted on a fire board. Also due to the location of the board the heat from the wood burner could cause the coating to blister or even blacken.

questions Kay Beeson on 28/11/2018

I have decking outside my Park Home, I have received a letter from the site manager which was from the Council saying under the legislation due to fire regulations & health & safety they have asked me to remove the decking in 10 days. I was wondering, if I got a professional in to paint the decking with Fire protection coating, would that be acceptable in the regulations. I know I need to ring the council and ask that question, but I wanted to know if this coating would safe me from taking the decking down. Kind regards Kay

Something like Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment would normally be recommended for decking rather than Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating, assuming the level of protection required is Euroclass B (BS Class 0). The timber would need to be bare/untreated for something like Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment to be used effectively, however first as you have said you will need to seek approval from the site manager/council to use a coating to upgrade the timber rather than removing it and to seek clarification on the level of fire protection they require.

questions fire retardent on 19/11/2018

we have been told by the building inspector to externally fire protect the dormer cheeks, it is a wooden framed structure with ply , the ply will then be covered with felt and tiled but we need to treat the plywood first, which will not be open to the elements please advise which paint or varnish to use

To be able to advise we will need to know the level of fire protection required (i.e. Class 1, Class 0, 30min, 60min, etc.) and the size of the surface area to coat please?

questions Spencer Young on 17/10/2018

HI, We require a class O fire retardant for solid oak timber lengths that have been fixed to MDF veneered sheets within a ground floor reception area. the panels and timber have been fixed on top of existing mable tiles. please can you let know the best product and application instructions thank you

Thermoguard Fire Varnish BS Class 1/0 & EN Class B System is a clear fire retardant varnish for interior and exterior timber and timber derivative surfaces. Please download the Fire Varnish System TDS (Technical Data Sheet) from this product page for details on application.

questions Ali on 16/10/2018

Hello, We’ve got MDF wallpanels which painted with polyuretane based paint. We’d like to acquire Class 0 fire retardancy by UKAS accredited to these panels. Could you please let me know if this product is compatible to apply for? Also please let me know about instructions for application of this product. Kind Regards.

Envirograf advise that if a clear system is used over what you have it can potentially discolour, distorting the overall appearance of the existing paint/colour. Instead they recommend you use a white system then overcoat with a colour of your choice if required.

Please see the following specification:

questions paul joseph on 04/06/2018

which would I have to apply first on my decking a stainer or the clear protection coating which would be the best

Assuming Euroclass B (BS Class 0) Fire Propagation and Spread of Flame fire protection is required, for decking we would recommend Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment be applied to the bare timber. Waterborne stains or varnishes can be used over Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment as long as they are compatible, non-flammable and will dry. We always recommend to try a small sample area first to ensure the stain does not react with the Zeroflame Fire Retardant Treatment and will dry out.

questions Gordon Burgess on 07/02/2018

Is this suitable for internally fitted OSB sheets for workshop?

Bare OSB would first need to be primed with Envirograf ES/VFR Primer, before application of Envirograf ES/VFR Clear Fire Protection Coating and subsequent compatible topcoat.
