Question:

We have approx 35m2 of exposed floor joists (c24) with ply boards that sits on top. Under the exposed floor joists is an open plan kitchen diner and living space. For building regs we need 1hour protection. We would also like to white wash (or similar) after the fire protection has been applied. Can you let me know which products I would need and if I could be supplied with a certificate of some kind to satisfy building control. Many thanks in advance.

Question:

I have a similar question that has been asked with regards to treating larch cladding, question included below so you know which one I mean, and so you don't have to repeat your answer but I have one additional question please! Once the products are applied, does it stop the timber naturally weathering, i.e. the larch starts almost orange/yellow in colour and weather grey/silver after a few year, will this product stop that weathering and so would I need to allow the new larch to weather first before applying the products? Thanks! Previous question, which answers most of what I need to know! Question: Hi, We're fitting timber cladding (18mm thick larch) to our extension and the building inspector says it needs to be 30 minute fire rated. Which one of your products is clear and would achieve this? The building inspector is concerned that any sprayed applied finish will deteriorate as it's external cladding and open to the elements. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Simon Answer: Envirograf advise to achieve a 30 minute fire rating they would recommend the use of their product 42 HW System. They have advised this product system will last the life of the substrate as long as no damage to the coating occurs, for external use they recommend re-applying the topcoat every 3-5 years for maintenance purposes. Please see the following specification: 1 coat of Envirograf HWAP/WB Primer applied at 10m² per litre 2 coats of Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating applied at 8m² per litre/per coat 2 coats of Envirograf HW Superb Clear Top Coat applied at 12m² per litre/per coat

Answer:

You do not need to allow the new larch to weather first before applying the products, the system should not affect any ongoing natural discolouration once applied.

questions Wayne Harris on 2019-05-19 16:05:04
Question:

Hi, We have a busy occupied office with approximately 120sq m of old wooden floorboards (height 3m X length 40m ) that have been mounted on the walls and finished with 2 costs of Dulux Antique White vinyl Matt emulsion. They are purely decorative. We are looking for a clear fire retardant product that we can apply to the mounted floorboards in order that we can keep the original colour showing through. We have to bear in mind that the office will be occupied while decoration is carried out. Is this product suitable and is it a one coat process? Kind regards Wayne Harris

Answer:

We would not recommend a clear system is applied over this as it will discolour/obscure the finish you wish to keep. Instead we would recommend applying 2 coats of Zeroflame Fire Retardant Paint which once dry can either be left as a white matt finish or overcoated with waterborne latex paints, applied at a total dry film thickness not exceeding 35 microns.

Based on 120m² you would require 7 x 5lts of Zeroflame Fire Retardant Paint to apply the required two coats.

Question:

Can I apply normal coloured varnish over the top of your clear satin top coat?

Answer:

Once the Envirograf system has been applied you can over coat with a topcoat of your choice. Envirograf recommend carrying out a small test area first to ensure compatibility between coatings. Envirograf advise this will have no detrimental effect on the fire rating properties of their product.

Question:

How regularly should the Envirograf intumescent wood treatment be applied ? Kind regards Harry

Answer:

Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating should be used as part of a complete system (primer, intumescent and topcoat), the system will remain effective for the life of the substrate as long as it is regularly inspected and maintained in good condition. If any coating gets damaged, you must retreat the area immediately to maintain the fire rating.
