Envirograf HW02E system offers a clear, intumescent coating, for upgrading new and certain already coated timber and wood related surfaces (contact the Technical Department to check the suitability of your substrate). Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating is to be used as part of a complete system including selected primers and topcoats and is a water based product that can be used internally and externally to provide BS Class 0 & Class 1 as well as up to 60 minute protection for wood and certain wood related products (see product data sheets and test data (available upon request) for full details).
Preparation & Application
See product data sheets in the 'Attachments' section below.
Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating needs to be upturned for 4 minutes, then add 5% water and stir thoroughly for five minutes. In cold weather it can go slightly thick, stand the container in hot water and stir it well – it will then go to a paint consistency. When applying Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating ensure then area is warm and dry, NOT COLD & DAMP.
The shelf life is 6 months from batch date.
Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating cannot provide 30 or 60min protection on man-made timbers such as MDF, OSB, Plywood, etc. only BS Class 0 & Class 1.
Minimum timber thicknesses apply for 30min and 60 minute protection - consult the product data sheets, test reports and Technical Department before proceeding.
Seek approval from the relevant authority for this product/system including test data prior to purchase/use (test data available upon request).

Hi, We have a busy occupied office with approximately 120sq m of old wooden floorboards (height 3m X length 40m ) that have been mounted on the walls and finished with 2 costs of Dulux Antique White vinyl Matt emulsion. They are purely decorative. We are looking for a clear fire retardant product that we can apply to the mounted floorboards in order that we can keep the original colour showing through. We have to bear in mind that the office will be occupied while decoration is carried out. Is this product suitable and is it a one coat process? Kind regards Wayne Harris
We would not recommend a clear system is applied over this as it will discolour/obscure the finish you wish to keep. Instead we would recommend applying 2 coats of Zeroflame Fire Retardant Paint which once dry can either be left as a white matt finish or overcoated with waterborne latex paints, applied at a total dry film thickness not exceeding 35 microns.
Based on 120m² you would require 7 x 5lts of Zeroflame Fire Retardant Paint to apply the required two coats.

Can I apply normal coloured varnish over the top of your clear satin top coat?
Once the Envirograf system has been applied you can over coat with a topcoat of your choice. Envirograf recommend carrying out a small test area first to ensure compatibility between coatings. Envirograf advise this will have no detrimental effect on the fire rating properties of their product.

Hi, We're fitting timber cladding (18mm thick larch) to our extension and the building inspector says it needs to be 30 minute fire rated. Which one of your products is clear and would achieve this? The building inspector is concerned that any sprayed applied finish will deteriorate as it's external cladding and open to the elements. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Simon
Envirograf advise to achieve a 30 minute fire rating they would recommend the use of their product 42 HW System. They have advised this product system will last the life of the substrate as long as no damage to the coating occurs, for external use they recommend re-applying the topcoat every 3-5 years for maintenance purposes. Please see the following specification:
Hi, I have a panelled tongue & groove timber staircase wall. It is already coated with a water based clear varnish. Just checking that I will be doing it correctly and providing the correct fire safety. Do I need to just sand it down and then coat it with your intumescent clear varnish, or is there a lot too it please? Sorry to be a pain in !!!! Jim

How regularly should the Envirograf intumescent wood treatment be applied ? Kind regards Harry
Envirograf HW02E Clear Intumescent Coating should be used as part of a complete system (primer, intumescent and topcoat), the system will remain effective for the life of the substrate as long as it is regularly inspected and maintained in good condition. If any coating gets damaged, you must retreat the area immediately to maintain the fire rating.
