Coo-Var High Performance Primer is a water based two pack epoxy primer to assist adhesion on difficult surfaces. Coo-Var High Performance Primer should be diluted with 10% water for application. To assist the adhesion of PROFLOOR floor paint or other Coo-Var products to difficult floors, tiles, etc or where mechanical abrasion is not practical and chemical etching has to be used. It acts as a barrier between old floorings and selected CooVar products (eg Bitumen, smoke stained surfaces). Ideal in areas where organic solvents are banned. Can be used on walls as well as floors. Low odour.
All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. Concrete - power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good "key" for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance.
New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. Other surfaces have to be prepared and primed with the suitable primer for that substrate. Existing painted surfaces - Surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate "key" is produced. Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly.
You should have two containers: one larger than the other and labelled Hardener. The other smaller one labelled Base. The contents of the pack marked Base are added to the contents of the larger pack marked Hardener and thoroughly mixed together, preferably by slow speed electric mixer. After mixing, add up to 500 mls clean tap water to the 5 kilo unit and mix again. This will make up one 5 kilo unit of High Performance Primer.
As dictated by normal good painting practice. Do not apply if the temperature is likely to drop below 10C during application or during the drying process. In confined spaces provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.
