Question:

I have a showroom of about 30sqm which I recently painted with a water based floor paint. The paint flakes off in a big area and I will have to re-paint the floor. It's an old concrete floor, which is not sealed and damp in a one area ( from the ground). Do you have a recommendation what paint I can use without too much effort/ time? What do you reckon is the best way to get a durable cover? I have limited time because my showroom is open to the public again soon. Thanks very much for your help!

Answer:

Concrete surfaces should be sound, clean and free from dust laitance and other contaminants. Suitable mechanical preparation methods such as vacuum grit blasting or diamond grinding is recommended to ensure the removal of contaminants and all existing paints to provide a ‘key’ for 402 Damp Proof Coating to adhere to.

Once prepared you can apply 2 coats of 402 Damp Proof Coating (first coat at 3m² per kg, second coat at 4m² per kg), this can be left as the final floor finish and does not require over coating.

A sub floor moisture reading of 97% R.H. can be accommodated by 402 Damp Proof Coating. If readings exceed this figure, then the floor must be allowed to dry out further.
