Coo-Var Guard-Coat is an anti-microbial coating which inhibits the growth of bacteria. The antibacterial action is created with silver ion technology. This exceptionally hard wearing epoxy paint system is suitable for floors and walls (even with heavy foot and vehicle traffic). Dries to an off-gloss finish. Water thinnable.
Coo-Var Guard-Coat should be diluted with 500ml of clean water per 5kg pack. Guard-Coat is ideal for use in areas where hygiene is important, ie hospitals, schools, doctors surgeries etc. inside and outside. Guard-Coat can be used over stable existing paint coverings. Can be used on wood, concrete, masonry, asphalt and tarmac. Can be used on floors and walls. Do not apply at temperatures below 10°.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and free from contaminants. Concrete - power floated, granolithic and smooth surfaces should be roughened first to provide a good "key" for the paint. This can be done mechanically by abrading or blasting, or chemically using Coo-Var Acid Etch. These processes will have the advantage in addition to preparing the surface of also removing dirt and laitance.
New concrete must be allowed to cure thoroughly which can take up to 3 months. Other surfaces have to be prepared and primed with the suitable primer for that substrate. Existing painted surfaces - Surfaces should be cleaned, degreased and sanded to ensure an adequate "key" is produced. Remove all loose and flaking material and treat bare areas as new substrate and prepare accordingly.
Mixing Instructions
You should have two containers: one larger than the other and labelled Hardener. The other smaller one labelled Base. The contents of the pack marked Base are added to the contents of the larger pack marked Hardener and thoroughly mixed together, preferably by slow speed electric mixer. After mixing, add up to 500 mls clean tap water to the 5 kilo unit and mix again. This will make up one 5 kilo unit.
Application Conditions
As dictated by normal good painting practice. Do not apply if the temperature is likely to drop below 10°C during application or during the drying process. In confined spaces provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.
Preceding Coat
Apply direct to ordinary stable concrete. Coo-Var High Performance Primer should be used where
the surface is smooth, polished or porous. On Metal use Teamac 2 Pack Zinc Phosphate Primer. Can be used on wood, asphalt and tarmac.
Subsequent Coat
Coo-Var Guard-Coat (If two coats are required).
