Heskins Photoluminescent Egress Tape clearly marks fire exits and escape routes, glowing in darkness to help guide personnel out of a building to safety during emergencies such as fire or a power cut. The tape charges during the day from natural or incandescent/artificial light, glowing at night or when the area is dim, such as blackouts, or blocked out by smoke from fire.
Apply photoluminescent tape to areas away from foot traffic to stop degredation, on surfaces such as:
- Door surrounds and handles
- Top of skirting boards
- Down walkways
- On step and stair edges
Heskins Photoluminescent Egress Tape is available in different styles and grades; see below for details, and further below for product data. For photoluminescent marking tapes and glow in the dark signs, see other Heskins products:
See the Heskins range of accessories for additional help during application, pro-longing the life of anti-slip tapes and line markings. The range consists of primers, edge fixing, mallets, rollers etc.

H8101X Photoluminescent Egress Tape - Plain
- Available on 10m rolls in widths from 25mm up to 1150mm.
A standard smooth photoluminescent glow in the dark marking tape, with self-adhesive backing. The tape is mild-green conventionally, glowing bright white when emitting light.
H8101D Photoluminescent Egress Tape - Hazard
- Available on 10m rolls in widths from 25mm up to 1150mm.
Designed to be more noticeable during daylight, with black chevrons running at 45° angles to break up the photoluminescent strip. At night the chevrons don't glow, leaving a pattern marking acces doors and routes.
H8101C Arrow Photoluminescent Tape
- Available on 10m rolls with 50mm width.
This egress tape has an arrow design to help guide personnel towards exits and escape routes as well as highlighting doors etc.
H8154 Super Photoluminescent Egress Tape (Class A)
- Available on 15m rolls in widths from 25mm up to 1200mm.
High-quality plain glow in the dark tape that glows for longer than standard tapes; with an A classification, which means from first activation, it will take approx. 450 minutes (7.5 hours) to reach 0.32 mcd/m².
H8152 Premium Photoluminescent Egress Tape (Class C)
- Available on 15m rolls in widths from 25mm up to 1200mm.
Premium-quality plain glow tape with exceptionally long afterglow performance and C classification, which means from first activation, it will take 1800 minutes (30 hours) to reach 0.32 mcd/m².
Millicandelas (Glow In The Dark Performance) Explained
DIN 67510 and ISO standards have led to the classification of photoluminescent materials into four main classes: A, B, C & D.
These classes categorise photoluminescent materials into their luminance, which is expressed in millicandelas per square metre (mcd/m²). To help put it into perspective, a candle emits light at a measurement of roughly 1 candela, and there are 1000 millicandela in a candela. Photoluminescent materials are classed based on what it initially emits at and how long it takes to get to 0.32 mcd/m² (the level at which light can no longer be seen by the human eye).
