    Application

    Equipment

    • Flint 2000EX® or equivalent propane fuelled torch with pressure regulator and 25ft of hose
    • Gas powered Blower or Broom
    • Chalk Sticks and Chalk Snap Line
    • Adequate Supply of Propane

    Moisture

Road must be dry prior to positioning the Bundy material.

    Surface

Asphalt and concrete must be free of dirt, dust, chemicals or significant oily substances. The Bundy Pad can be applied on new or old thermoplastic. When applying on old thermoplastic scrape off any loose material. Ensure that the remaining thermoplastic surface is clean. If the old thermoplastic is oxidized (powdery surface), grind it or heat and scrape the top surface so fresh material is exposed. Do not apply on top of paint or cold plastic.

    Material

The Bundy Pad shall be kept dry at all times. Avoid extreme storage temperatures. The Bundy Pad should be stored indoors at temperatures between 1˚C and 32˚C. The packages should be stored flat and stacked a maximum of 25 packs high. The Bundy Pad should be handled with care in temperatures below 10˚C as it will be less flexible. Shelf life is 12 months. The Bundy sealer should be used for application on Portland concrete cement surfaces.

    For Application on Asphalt

    • Clean intended application area thoroughly. All loose particles, sand, dust, etc. must be removed. Utilize a power blower or compressed air if available, otherwise sweep area completely
    • Ensure that no moisture is present to positioning the Bundy Pad material on the road surface. Surface moisture is not often visible so you should assume that some moisture is present. Remove moisture by drying the application area with a propane fuelled torch such as Flint 2000EX®
    • Position the Bundy Pad on the road surface
    • Prepare to heat the Bundy Pad by positioning yourself with the wind at your back. This will keep the heat from the torch away from your feet. Begin heating the material by moving the flame from a propane fuelled torch, such as the Flint 2000EX®, slowly, but steadily over the material. Heat thoroughly until the Bundy material is molten. This will cause the Bundy material to spread slightly. The Bundy material must be heated to its melting temperature to achieve a bond with the pavement
    • Once the Bundy Pad has been heated and using your gloved hand, position the Road Stud immediately in the molten Bundy Pad. Apply slight pressure to the marker and make sure all corners are embedded in the Bundy Pad material between the marker and the road surface
    • The Bundy Pad will cool and set rapidly within a couple of minutes of application. If desired, setting time can be accelerated with a spray of cool water

    For Application on Non-Bituminous Surfaces

    • Clean intended application area thoroughly. All loose particles, sand, dust, etc. must be removed. Utilize a power blower or compressed air if available, otherwise sweep area completely
    • Ensure that no moisture is present to positioning the Bundy material on the road surface. Surface moisture is not often visible so you should assume that some moisture is present. Remove moisture by drying the application area with a propane fuelled torch such as Flint 2000EX®. Note: Worn, polished concrete should be ground or milled so the surface becomes rough
    • Apply an approved the Bundy Pad sealer to the area designated to receive the Bundy Pad. Let the sealer set until it no longer transfers to your fingers when touched. Caution: Do not speed up the drying process by using an open flame as the sealer is flammable at this stage
    • Next position the Bundy Pad
Apply slight pressure to the marker and make sure all corners are embedded in the Bundy material between the marker and the road surface
    • Bundy Pad will cool and set rapidly within a couple of minutes of application. If desired, setting time can be accelerated with a spray of cool water

    Notes:

    • The Bundy Pad is compatible with asphalt and concrete surfaces and can be applied on special surfaces, i.e., bricks and cobble stones, using an approved sealer
    • Do not allow two Bundy pads to be stored while in contact with each other as they will bond together especially in hot weather. Use the plastic separation sheets to avoid this situation
    • Don’t throw or drop Bundy Pad in lower temperatures, as it will be less flexible in colder weather
    • Oil impervious Bundy Pad can be applied immediately after completion of daily paving operations

    Safety Precautions

Protective clothing, consisting of leather boots, or work shoes, long pants, gloves and either safety goggle or a face shield should be worn while applying The Bundy Pads. Avoid all contact with hot Bundy material and Flint 2000 EX® heat gun flame. If you get some hot Bundy material on your skin, flush the area immediately with plenty of water and then seek medical attention. Do not attempt to pull the molten material off your skin. In the event of accidental skin contact with sealer wash contaminated skin with soap and water and remove contaminated clothes immediately. In the event of accidental sealer contact with the eyes, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes; remove contact lenses; call a physician.

Heat torches such as the Flint 2000EX®, or Standard Propane Fuelled torch operate on vaporised propane gas. Use the largest size cylinder possible. The propane gas cylinders must be used in the standing, upright position with the valve being the uppermost part. Never lay the cylinder down. This will allow liquid gas to flow into the torch and is not recommended. Do not use the torch if the propane cylinder is not in the upright position.
