    Description

Zinsser Perma-White Interior will bond to existing paints, either solvent-based or glossy paints. It will even bond to ceramic tiling and Formica without sanding. The paint contains a biocide that serveas a protective shield against fungal degradation. Due to these protective properties against mould and mildew and as a moisture resistant paint, Zinsser Perma-White paint is ideally suited for areas with persistent humidity and poor air circulation, such as bathrooms, basements or laundry rooms. Zinsser guarantees protection against fungal degradation for 7 years.

Their Perma-White Interior Paint comes in two different finishes, matt or satin; both finishes are available here at Rawlins Paints in 1l, 2.5l, 5l or 10l tins. We also stock Zinsser Perma-White Semi-Gloss paint, suitable for both internal and external usage.

Zinsser Perma-White Interior Matt Paint – is ideal for areas where a low sheen finish is desired. As a durable paint with a long lasting protection against mildew and mould, this matt finish will be ideal for basements and kitchens.

Zinsser Perma-White Interior Satin Paint – if you are after a glossier finish rather than a dull sheen, Perma-White Satin Interior Paint will be the best choice. We recommend using this particular finish for areas that are subject to wear and tear. Due to its moisture resistant properties, Perma-White Satin Paint will be ideal for bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Zinsser Perma-White Semi-Gloss Paint – The Zinsser Perma White Semi-Gloss paint is only available in Perma-White Exterior. However, due to improvements, this product can now be used both internally and externally. Due to its durability and wear and tear resistance, this semi-gloss finish is ideal for those surfaces that are subject to heavy wear and tear. We recommend using Perma-White Semi-Gloss Paint for trim, cabinets, doors or baseboards. It is also ideal for commercial use in hotels, nursing homes, school and hospitals.

    • To prevent product from skinning over close container after each use. Keep lid tightly closed during storage. Protect from freezing.
    • If contents freeze, thaw to room temperature before using.
    • NOTE: Perma-White® is formulated with a mildewcide approved for paint use and does not contain mercury or lead compounds.
    • Surfaces must be clean, sound and free of dirt, dust, grease, wax, wallcovering adhesive, soap film, loose paint or other surface contamination.
    • Remove all existing mould and mildew before painting, such as with Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover.
    • If you are concerned about mould and mildew behind walls, underneath flooring, in ventilation systems or other unseen areas, contact a professional who specializes in mould and mildew remediation.
    • For commercial buildings and schools follow appropriate guidelines for mould removal.
    • Clean surfaces with a solution of one-cup household bleach per gallon of water or a quality biocidal wash.
    • Warning: If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. Special precautions should be taken during the surface preparation of pre 1960’s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead. When dry-sanding avoid dust inhalation by wearing a suitable protective face mask.
    • StainsRust, tannin, grease, mould and mildew and other stains should be blocked with the appropriate stain killing primer sealer such as B-I-N®.
    • When priming over stained areas, first attempt to remove as much of the stain as possible by washing, sanding, scraping, etc.

    Application

    • Shake or stir well before using.
    • Apply with synthetic bristle brush, roller, pad applicator or sprayer.
    • For airless spraying, use a .017 tip and high medium (2000-2600 PSI) pressure.
    • Apply when air and surface temperatures are between 10°and 32°C and humidity is less than 80%.
    • Perma-White® is designed to be used as is.
    • If thinning is necessary (such as with conventional sprayer applications), use only water and no more than 10% by volume
    • 2 coats are required for proper performance and mould and mildew-resistance.
    • Clean up spills and drips with a wet cloth or rag. Wash application tools in warm, soapy water immediately after use.
    • If product has dried on application tool, soak it overnight in a solution of equal parts household ammonia and water. Follow manufacturer’s instructions when cleaning spray equipment. Use Zinsser BIN Brush Cleaner to removed dried paint from brushes

    questions R on 2023-06-25 16:37:26
    Question:

Hello, can this be painted ontop of wooden shelves that have already had paint applied to them? thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes assuming the previously painted areas are clean, dry, sound and lightly sanded to provide a key.

We would recommend to test on a small area for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

    questions Kerrie on 2022-04-21 18:20:14
    Question:

Would you recommend Zinsser Perma-white for painting sheet vinyl flooring? Or would there be a better suited paint for this? I’m looking for a tintable paint for this job. Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior would definitely not be OK for this type of application and unfortunately we have nothing tintable that we could recommend that would be.

    questions Sam on 2022-03-23 15:38:53
    Question:

I'm looking to use Zinsser Perma-White Interior in my downstairs shower room which is poorly ventilated and prone to mould on the walls. I would prefer the matt finish but will the satin finish provide better coverage for this room?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The matt finish does provide a long lasting protection against mildew and mould, but the satin finish will stand up better to areas exposed to wear and tear, it also has better moisture resistant properties.

But please note none of the finish options are suitable for areas exposed to direct water contact.

    questions Natalie  on 2021-11-20 20:19:53
    Question:

When using Zinserr Bin on kitchen cupboards should it be applied with brush or roller for best results?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser B-I-N can be applied with brush roller or spray.

Spray or roller application will give the smoothest finish.

    questions Jeet on 2021-05-22 11:51:49
    Question:

Hi - would this be suitable to go over primed timber walls for a pool cabin?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the primed walls are not subject to direct water contact, they are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be used.

We would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion with the previously applied primer.

    questions Rhiannon on 2021-05-10 17:58:12
    Question:

I'm looking for a fully waterproof paint to paint timber stairs (treads are covered in vinyl flooring but skirting is exposed) that lead up to the pool. They will be constantly wet with chlorinated water and in a humid environment. What would you recomend? Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the timber stairs are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical data sheet we can recommend one coat of Teamac Metaclor Antifouling Primer followed by 3 coats of Teamac Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Paint.

This is available in many RAL and BS colours in a gloss finish.

    questions Kim  on 2021-04-27 17:16:06
    Question:

Hello, my bathroom ceiling is peeling slightly only in small areas, and I intended to use the ‘peel stop’ and over paint with the permseal white paint. I have no mound whatsoever, just a bit of peeling due to the use of the shower. However I donot want a shiny surface so was going to use the MATT paint. I see upon reading one of your FAQ that you. Suggest using SATIN..? Is the Matt suitable in a bathroom? I shall use on the ceiling and the walls.. I appreciate your help.. Kind regards Kim

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior in both Matt and Satin finishes are suitable for use in areas that may be exposed to moisture such as bathrooms and kitchens. We wouldn't recommend Zinsser Perma-White Interior for use on any walls that would come in to direct contact with water streams for a shower for instance.

    questions Andy on 2021-01-19 15:38:50
    Question:

Hi, looking for a product to use on previously painted kitchen cupboard doors and drawer fronts. Unsure if the Allcoat multi-surface solvent based or PermaWhite is the best one to choose? Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the previously painted doors are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet we can recommend Zinsser Perma-White Interior.

As the doors are previously painted we would advise testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

    questions Louise on 2021-01-13 11:32:58
    Question:

Is this suitable for painting on an interior brick wall?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the wall is clean dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet this will be suitable for application to a brick wall once it has been primed with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.

    Question:

Is this paint ok to use as a top coat on a staircase . As it will gets lots of hands on it over time

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the staircase balustrade to be painted is timber this paint can be used as a top coat.

The satin finish is recommend over the matt for high wear and tear areas due to increased durability.

    Question:

Hi, Is the Zinsser perma-white interior mould resistant paint pet safe? I need to paint my hall and living room and I have two indoor cats that never go outside.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately this is something we couldn't advise on as the manufacturer has not carried out any testing, nor has any data on their products in regards of any kind of animal safety standards.

    questions Ben on 2019-11-25 09:54:35
    Question:

HI does this have the same coverage properties as Zinsser Allcoat (waterbased) Planning on painting some joinery items and have been impressed with the all coat coverage and would like to replicate the coverage for internal joinery. Many thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) products have a coverage rate of 12m² per litre/per coat. Zinsser Perma-White Interior has a coverage rate of 10m² per litre/per coat so slightly less. You can however use the Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) products for interior applications if you wish as well as exterior ones.

questions Mark Young on 2019-06-17 13:42:18
    Question:

Is this product for painting interior UPVC window frames / ledges?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

No, you should instead use Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (Water Based) internally and externally on uPVC surfaces.

questions Val Bowie on 2019-05-14 10:04:05
    Question:

Our decorator used Zinsser Exterior paint to do our hallways and landing! I s this harmful in any way? We did not ask for an exterior paint and have found when it is cleaned it then becomes sticky. What should we do to get rid of this in your opinion? As elderly people we are most concerned and would be grateful of some advice. Thank you, Val Bowie

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

You haven't mentioned which Zinsser product has been specifically used but assuming it was one of the Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) or Zinsser Perma-White Exterior products, both of these are fine for use indoors. We can’t see why it would go sticky when it is wiped, you should only use warm water or a very dilute household detergent for cleaning.

    questions Keith on 2019-02-12 10:57:46
    Question:

Is your perma-White paint suitable for skim coated plasterboard walls of our indoor swimming pool room?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior is fine for this environment but we do recommend you prime first with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based)1 coat if Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based) followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be our specification.

    questions Lisa on 2019-02-03 18:56:36
    Question:

Will Zinsser Perma-White semi-gloss be ok to use on tile around the fireplace?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White is not a heat resistant paint so assuming the tiles in question do not get hot (below 60-70°C) then it should be OK, you may also need a primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 for the tiles first to aid adhesion.

    questions EMMA-JANE swan on 2019-01-14 14:55:28
    Question:

HI, Our bathroom is peeling on every surface and we have repainted and its happening again. If we use this paint will it stop it from peeling and how do you prep it, so the old paint doesn't peel underneath? should i choose satin?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This is a common problem. It is likely the paint used previously is allowing moisture through to the plaster walls and ceiling causing the flaking, i.e. loss of adhesion. During winter the plaster has been absorbing moisture leading to the flaking problem.  The ceiling will need to completely dry out before any painting is carried out. Leaving windows and the bathroom door open as much as possible, minimising use of the shower etc will help speed up the drying out process.

Scrape back all the loose failing paint to a firm edge. Treat any areas of mould using a suitable anti mould product such as Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover. Spot prime the edges where the paint has flaked away with 1 coat of Zinsser Peel Stop. Apply 1 full coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 to the walls and ceiling. If there is a slight step in the coating where the old paint layer meets the bare plaster you can apply a fine surface filler to even this out. Seal the filled areas with a coat of the Peel Stop.

Finally apply 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior Satin. This is a great product for bathrooms and areas of high humidity. It can also be mixed to a wide range of colours.

NOTE: Minimise the use of the shower, avoid high levels of steam and condensation for the first week after applying the Perma-White, this is to allow it to fully harden and reach full moisture resistance, otherwise the coating may be damaged if it is subjected to condensation and water vapour while it is still curing.

questions Craig parker on 2019-01-08 04:27:20
    Question:

Will the perma white Interior satin adhere to melamine?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

We would advise priming the clean melamine surface with a coat of Zinsser B-I-N first followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. This will give much better adhesion.

    Question:

I have some mould on the wall of a bedroom which I am going to clean off. What sort of paint should I use - would prefer a pastel colour rather than white.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be an excellent choice and is available in nearly any colour (not just white), see our blog post How to Paint Over Mould for more details.

    Question:

I'm getting this along with the primer to cover some varnished wood panels but could I also use this as normal gloss to do radiators, skirting boards etc?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes Zinsser Perma-White Interior can be used on skirting boards and radiators. To prime the radiators Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 would be recommended. Any rust spots should be sanded back to bright clean metal first then spot primed. The skirting boards can be primed with Zinsser B-I-N first then the Perma-White applied. Please note Perma-White is not available in gloss, only semi-gloss, satin or matt.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior is self-priming and can be applied to a wide range of surfaces without the need of a separate primer or undercoat, however there are a number of substrates/circumstances that do require various primers, please refer to the Product Data Sheet for full details available to download from the 'Download' section beneath the product description on the product page.

    Question:

I require a waterproof paint for a downward sloping ceiling of a shower area which is quite likely to get wet from shower spray. Could you please advise if this paint would be suitable? Many thanks.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior will be fine for this application. The substrate must be completely dry, remove unsound paint and wash down to remove soap/ shampoo splashes. If there are any bare areas these can be primed with Zinsser Peel Stop then apply 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. Restrict use of shower for first 5-7 days to allow the paint to fully cure.

    Question:

Could you please advise on two questions I have no.1 which paint should I use to alleviate the problem of the gloss paint going yellow in the bathroom and to cover dark varnished wood doors to white. Thanks for reading Mrs Patricia Singleton.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

We would recommend priming with Zinsser B-I-N and finishing with Zinsser Perma-White Interior in your chosen colour and finish for both instances.

    Question:

Hi, Is this product suitable for use on a ceramic tiled shower area?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior is an excellent product for use in humid conditions such as walls and ceiling in a bathroom, kitchen or swimming pool area and when used in conjunction with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer it can be used for painting ceramic tiles providing a tough, durable finish; however it is not recommended for use in the shower area itself where the product would come in to direct contact with hot running water and would be subjected to harsh cleaning.

Question: Hi, I want to paint over varnished wooden shelves and pre-painted wooden skirting boards in the bathroom - would the Interior White be suitable for this? Thanks
    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be a good product for this environment. We would recommend Zinsser B-I-N to prime the varnish first though, followed by 2 coats of the Perma-White.

Question: Hi, we would like to know if your perma white paint would be suitable for swimming pool ceiling we are taping and jointing so would be applied to a gtec moisture resistant plasterboard would we need to wash coat or seal prior to the application of the perma whiteThanks Doug
    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The specification for swimming pool walls and ceilings Zinsser recommend is to prime first with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based), followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. No other sealers required, do not thin either product.

Question: ZN7070001D1 Zinsser Perma-white Interior paintAm I correct in assuming from your website that despite the name the Zinsser Perma-white Interior paint comes in a range of colours? Are you able to supply a paint swatch book of the colours? Can you also order paint sample pots? Also can you paint on top of this product with a regular paint and still retain the anti-mould properties?
    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes Zinsser Perma-White Interior is available in the range of colours shown on the product page. However we do not offer colour cards or samples due to the colours on offer being industry standard RAL and BS colours (which means they are not unique to the Zinsser Perma-White product). Finally Zinsser Perma-White Interior must be the final finish and cannot be painted over if you wish to maintain its performance properties.

Question: i have issues with mould on ceilings in two bedrooms and bathroom. How do I prep the ceilings before using this paint please?
    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

    Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be clean, dry and free from anything that will interfere with the adhesion of the materials to be applied. Remove loose and failing material by scraping or brushing with a stiff bristle brush to a sound edge. Feather sound edges with a fine grade abrasive paper. Remove all visible signs of organic growth and treat the areas with Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow to dry.

In areas with remaining sound paint wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry.

    Patch Priming
Patch prime all stained, bare and filled areas with one coat of Zinsser B-I-N Primer Sealer in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of 45 minutes in normal drying conditions.

    Decoration
Decorate with two full coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior Matt, Satin or Semi-Gloss in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Allow a minimum drying time of two hours between coats.

Zinsser Perma-White is a durable, water-based, very low odour finish containing a biocode that protects the dried coating against mould and mildew and is guaranteed for 5 years. It is ideally suited for any area of persistent high humidity, frequent temperature changes and poor air circulation.

    Question:

Would this be suitable at protecting wooden structures from mould and fungus in a cellar where we have previously had damp issues?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes, Zinsser Perma-White Interior would protect wood from mould and fungus.

If the timber is structural then it should be replaced if there is fungus growing, if it is just shelving or other then proceed as follows to give a good level of protection.

If you are replacing any timber with new then treating first with Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star Clear would be recommended. You can then prime with Zinsser Cover Stain followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior.

If the timber is not to be replaced with new and assuming there is no paint on already, scrape to remove the mould and fungus, treat with Blackfriar Anti-Mould Solution and leave overnight. Scrub with hot soapy water then apply a further treatment of the Blackfriar Anti-Mould Solution. Don’t wash this second treatment off, apply Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star Clear liberally to the dry bare timber, 3 coats wet on wet ideally, leave 3-4 days to dry then apply Zinsser Cover Stain and Zinsser Perma-White Interior as above.

    Question:

We are looking to use the Zinsser Perma-White Interior for our indoor swimming pool hall - could you let me know (i) that it would be suitable; and (ii) how soon can it be painted onto fresh skimmed plaster?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Zinsser Perma-White Interior is definitely a suitable product for this application and what we would usually specify for these instances. The plaster will need to be primed with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based) before applying Zinsser Perma-White Interior but you must ensure the plaster is sufficiently dry before doing so. Substrates to be coated with this system should have a maximum moisture content of 12%.
