Zinsser Perma-White paint is a durable, water-based, very low odour finish containing a biocide that protects the dried coating against mould and mildew - guaranteed for 7 years. It is ideally suited for any area of persistent high humidity, frequent temperature changes and poor air circulation.
**Available for delivery - see Delivery Options below**
Zinsser Perma-White Interior will bond to existing paints, either solvent-based or glossy paints. It will even bond to ceramic tiling and Formica without sanding. The paint contains a biocide that serveas a protective shield against fungal degradation. Due to these protective properties against mould and mildew and as a moisture resistant paint, Zinsser Perma-White paint is ideally suited for areas with persistent humidity and poor air circulation, such as bathrooms, basements or laundry rooms. Zinsser guarantees protection against fungal degradation for 7 years.
Their Perma-White Interior Paint comes in two different finishes, matt or satin; both finishes are available here at Rawlins Paints in 1l, 2.5l, 5l or 10l tins. We also stock Zinsser Perma-White Semi-Gloss paint, suitable for both internal and external usage.
Zinsser Perma-White Interior Matt Paint – is ideal for areas where a low sheen finish is desired. As a durable paint with a long lasting protection against mildew and mould, this matt finish will be ideal for basements and kitchens.
Zinsser Perma-White Interior Satin Paint – if you are after a glossier finish rather than a dull sheen, Perma-White Satin Interior Paint will be the best choice. We recommend using this particular finish for areas that are subject to wear and tear. Due to its moisture resistant properties, Perma-White Satin Paint will be ideal for bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Zinsser Perma-White Semi-Gloss Paint – The Zinsser Perma White Semi-Gloss paint is only available in Perma-White Exterior. However, due to improvements, this product can now be used both internally and externally. Due to its durability and wear and tear resistance, this semi-gloss finish is ideal for those surfaces that are subject to heavy wear and tear. We recommend using Perma-White Semi-Gloss Paint for trim, cabinets, doors or baseboards. It is also ideal for commercial use in hotels, nursing homes, school and hospitals.

![]() | Question:
Hi, looking for a product to use on previously painted kitchen cupboard doors and drawer fronts. Unsure if the Allcoat multi-surface solvent based or PermaWhite is the best one to choose? Thanks |
Answer:
Assuming the previously painted doors are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet we can recommend Zinsser Perma-White Interior. As the doors are previously painted we would advise testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.
![]() | Question:
Is this suitable for painting on an interior brick wall? |
Answer:
Assuming the wall is clean dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data Sheet this will be suitable for application to a brick wall once it has been primed with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3.
![]() | Question:
Is this paint ok to use as a top coat on a staircase . As it will gets lots of hands on it over time |
Answer:
Assuming the staircase balustrade to be painted is timber this paint can be used as a top coat. The satin finish is recommend over the matt for high wear and tear areas due to increased durability.
![]() | Question:
Hi, Is the Zinsser perma-white interior mould resistant paint pet safe? I need to paint my hall and living room and I have two indoor cats that never go outside. |
Answer:
Unfortunately this is something we couldn't advise on as the manufacturer has not carried out any testing, nor has any data on their products in regards of any kind of animal safety standards.
![]() | Question:
HI does this have the same coverage properties as Zinsser Allcoat (waterbased) Planning on painting some joinery items and have been impressed with the all coat coverage and would like to replicate the coverage for internal joinery. Many thanks |
Answer:
Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) products have a coverage rate of 12m² per litre/per coat. Zinsser Perma-White Interior has a coverage rate of 10m² per litre/per coat so slightly less. You can however use the Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) products for interior applications if you wish as well as exterior ones.
![]() | Question:
Is this product for painting interior UPVC window frames / ledges? |
Answer:
No, you should instead use Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (Water Based) internally and externally on uPVC surfaces.
![]() | Question:
Our decorator used Zinsser Exterior paint to do our hallways and landing! I s this harmful in any way? We did not ask for an exterior paint and have found when it is cleaned it then becomes sticky. What should we do to get rid of this in your opinion? As elderly people we are most concerned and would be grateful of some advice. Thank you, Val Bowie |
Answer:
You haven't mentioned which Zinsser product has been specifically used but assuming it was one of the Zinsser AllCoat Exterior (Water Based) or Zinsser Perma-White Exterior products, both of these are fine for use indoors. We can’t see why it would go sticky when it is wiped, you should only use warm water or a very dilute household detergent for cleaning.
![]() | Question: Is your perma-White paint suitable for skim coated plasterboard walls of our indoor swimming pool room? |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior is fine for this environment but we do recommend you prime first with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based). 1 coat if Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based) followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be our specification.
![]() | Question: Will Zinsser Perma-White semi-gloss be ok to use on tile around the fireplace? |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White is not a heat resistant paint so assuming the tiles in question do not get hot (below 60-70°C) then it should be OK, you may also need a primer such as Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 for the tiles first to aid adhesion.
![]() | Question: HI, Our bathroom is peeling on every surface and we have repainted and its happening again. If we use this paint will it stop it from peeling and how do you prep it, so the old paint doesn't peel underneath? should i choose satin? |
Answer: This is a common problem. It is likely the paint used previously is allowing moisture through to the plaster walls and ceiling causing the flaking, i.e. loss of adhesion. During winter the plaster has been absorbing moisture leading to the flaking problem. The ceiling will need to completely dry out before any painting is carried out. Leaving windows and the bathroom door open as much as possible, minimising use of the shower etc will help speed up the drying out process. Scrape back all the loose failing paint to a firm edge. Treat any areas of mould using a suitable anti mould product such as Zinsser Mould Killer & Remover. Spot prime the edges where the paint has flaked away with 1 coat of Zinsser Peel Stop. Apply 1 full coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 to the walls and ceiling. If there is a slight step in the coating where the old paint layer meets the bare plaster you can apply a fine surface filler to even this out. Seal the filled areas with a coat of the Peel Stop. Finally apply 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior Satin. This is a great product for bathrooms and areas of high humidity. It can also be mixed to a wide range of colours. NOTE: Minimise the use of the shower, avoid high levels of steam and condensation for the first week after applying the Perma-White, this is to allow it to fully harden and reach full moisture resistance, otherwise the coating may be damaged if it is subjected to condensation and water vapour while it is still curing.
![]() | Question: Will the perma white Interior satin adhere to melamine? |
Answer: We would advise priming the clean melamine surface with a coat of Zinsser B-I-N first followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. This will give much better adhesion.
![]() | Question: I want paint the brickwork inside a old fire place, to put a wood burner in can i paint the bricks with this paint colour paint ,will it stay on walls with heat of the wood burner |
Answer: Please read our blog post: Painting the Walls around a Fireplace or Multi Fuel Stove
![]() | Question: I have some mould on the wall of a bedroom which I am going to clean off. What sort of paint should I use - would prefer a pastel colour rather than white. |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be an excellent choice and is available in nearly any colour (not just white), see our blog post How to Paint Over Mould for more details.
![]() | Question: I'm getting this along with the primer to cover some varnished wood panels but could I also use this as normal gloss to do radiators, skirting boards etc? |
Answer: Yes Zinsser Perma-White Interior can be used on skirting boards and radiators. To prime the radiators Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 would be recommended. Any rust spots should be sanded back to bright clean metal first then spot primed. The skirting boards can be primed with Zinsser B-I-N first then the Perma-White applied. Please note Perma-White is not available in gloss, only semi-gloss, satin or matt.
![]() | Question: I have some new kitchen cupboards with a beech coloured melamine coating and would like to paint them white. I have used Zinsser paint before but don't know which to use for this. |
Answer: Clean surfaces with Methylated Spirits then apply 1 coat of Zinsser B-I-N followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior.
![]() | Question: What paint should I use. On fire board at backofmultistove |
Answer: Our recommendations on painting around fireplaces can be found on our blog post: Painting the Walls around a Fireplace or Multi Fuel Stove
![]() | Question: Does this paint need an undercoat? Thank you |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior is self-priming and can be applied to a wide range of surfaces without the need of a separate primer or undercoat, however there are a number of substrates/circumstances that do require various primers, please refer to the Product Data Sheet for full details available to download from the 'Download' section beneath the product description on the product page.
![]() | Question: I require a waterproof paint for a downward sloping ceiling of a shower area which is quite likely to get wet from shower spray. Could you please advise if this paint would be suitable? Many thanks. |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior will be fine for this application. The substrate must be completely dry, remove unsound paint and wash down to remove soap/ shampoo splashes. If there are any bare areas these can be primed with Zinsser Peel Stop then apply 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. Restrict use of shower for first 5-7 days to allow the paint to fully cure.
![]() | Question: Could you please advise on two questions I have no.1 which paint should I use to alleviate the problem of the gloss paint going yellow in the bathroom and to cover dark varnished wood doors to white. Thanks for reading Mrs Patricia Singleton. |
Answer: We would recommend priming with Zinsser B-I-N and finishing with Zinsser Perma-White Interior in your chosen colour and finish for both instances.
![]() | Question: Hi, Is this product suitable for use on a ceramic tiled shower area? |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior is an excellent product for use in humid conditions such as walls and ceiling in a bathroom, kitchen or swimming pool area and when used in conjunction with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer it can be used for painting ceramic tiles providing a tough, durable finish; however it is not recommended for use in the shower area itself where the product would come in to direct contact with hot running water and would be subjected to harsh cleaning.
![]() | Question: Hi, I want to paint over varnished wooden shelves and pre-painted wooden skirting boards in the bathroom - would the Interior White be suitable for this?
Thanks |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior would be a good product for this environment. We would recommend Zinsser B-I-N to prime the varnish first though, followed by 2 coats of the Perma-White.
![]() | Question: Hi,
we would like to know if your perma white paint would be suitable for swimming pool ceiling
we are taping and jointing so would be applied to a gtec moisture resistant plasterboard would we need to wash coat or seal prior to the application of the perma white
Thanks Doug |
Answer: The specification for swimming pool walls and ceilings Zinsser recommend is to prime first with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based), followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. No other sealers required, do not thin either product.
![]() | Question: ZN7070001D1
Zinsser Perma-white Interior paint
Am I correct in assuming from your website that despite the name the Zinsser Perma-white Interior paint comes in a range of colours? Are you able to supply a paint swatch book of the colours? Can you also order paint sample pots? Also can you paint on top of this product with a regular paint and still retain the anti-mould properties? |
Answer: Yes Zinsser Perma-White Interior is available in the range of colours shown on the product page. However we do not offer colour cards or samples due to the colours on offer being industry standard RAL and BS colours (which means they are not unique to the Zinsser Perma-White product). Finally Zinsser Perma-White Interior must be the final finish and cannot be painted over if you wish to maintain its performance properties.
![]() | Question: I need to paint a newly plastered bathroom ceiling. I'm unsure if l should do a couple of miscoats with this product or if a standard Matt emulsion would be suitable.
May l ask your thoughts?
Thank you. |
Answer: Prime the bare plaster with Zinsser Gardz and finish with 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior.
![]() | Question: Do you have samples for this paint?
Thanks |
Answer: I'm afraid samples aren't available for this product.
![]() | Question: i have issues with mould on ceilings in two bedrooms and bathroom. How do I prep the ceilings before using this paint please? |
Answer: Surface Preparation In areas with remaining sound paint wash with hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove any contaminants, frequently changing the water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues. Allow to dry. Patch Priming Decoration Zinsser Perma-White is a durable, water-based, very low odour finish containing a biocode that protects the dried coating against mould and mildew and is guaranteed for 5 years. It is ideally suited for any area of persistent high humidity, frequent temperature changes and poor air circulation.
![]() | Question: Would this be suitable at protecting wooden structures from mould and fungus in a cellar where we have previously had damp issues? |
Answer: Yes, Zinsser Perma-White Interior would protect wood from mould and fungus. If the timber is structural then it should be replaced if there is fungus growing, if it is just shelving or other then proceed as follows to give a good level of protection. If you are replacing any timber with new then treating first with Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star Clear would be recommended. You can then prime with Zinsser Cover Stain followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. If the timber is not to be replaced with new and assuming there is no paint on already, scrape to remove the mould and fungus, treat with Blackfriar Anti-Mould Solution and leave overnight. Scrub with hot soapy water then apply a further treatment of the Blackfriar Anti-Mould Solution. Don’t wash this second treatment off, apply Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star Clear liberally to the dry bare timber, 3 coats wet on wet ideally, leave 3-4 days to dry then apply Zinsser Cover Stain and Zinsser Perma-White Interior as above.
![]() | Question: We are looking to use the Zinsser Perma-White Interior for our indoor swimming pool hall - could you let me know (i) that it would be suitable; and (ii) how soon can it be painted onto fresh skimmed plaster? |
Answer: Zinsser Perma-White Interior is definitely a suitable product for this application and what we would usually specify for these instances. The plaster will need to be primed with Zinsser AllCoat (Solvent-Based) before applying Zinsser Perma-White Interior but you must ensure the plaster is sufficiently dry before doing so. Substrates to be coated with this system should have a maximum moisture content of 12%.
![]() | Question: I am painting over existing (new) white emulsion in an outdoor "garden room". How many coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior do I need? |
Answer: 2 coats @ 10m² per litre/per coat are required for proper performance and mould and mildew-resistance.
