Description

Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint is a white, special low odour, efflorescence resistant resin-based paint for application to damp interior walls and ceilings. Designed as a primer coat containing an active reagent which combines with surface moisture and dampness. Contains a biocidal product for the preservation of the dry film and to reduce discolouration. Can be over-coated.

Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint is recommended for use on interior walls and ceilings. Can be applied to damp surfaces (ensure the surface is not saturated). Can be applied to plaster, cement and stone.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces should be clean, sound and free from contaminants and grease. Can be applied to damp surfaces but ensure the surfaces are not saturated. Scrape and brush the surface to remove any loose flaking material. Flat down glossy surfaces with abrasive paper. Treat any mould or lichen with a proprietory mould remover with a scraper or a stiff brush then treat again. Remove sources of damp and repair structural problems prior to application (See Remarks section).

Application Conditions

As dictated by normal good painting practice. In confined spaces, provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.

Subsequent Coat

Suitable topcoat or wall covering.

Remarks

Ensure all sources of damp are repaired prior to treatment, this includes structural, plumbing faults and rising damp.

Recommended Uses

  • Plaster
  • Cement
  • Stone
  • Walls
  • Ceilings
  • Internally
  • Damp surfaces IF not saturated.

Question:

Hi. I am trying to find a product which will help to fix problems with wallpaper lifting due to damp. One wall may be rising damp and another possibly due to damp getting behind exterior render (now hopefully sorted). Lifting the paper I can see salts coming through and some parts do feel damp. I know there is a ‘proper’ solution but tbh need a short term solution until next major redecoration. Would Coo-Var anti damp paint help? Thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Coo-Var Anti-Damp Paint may provide a short term solution here but we haven’t had any experience of wallpaper going over the top of it. As you have suggested if there are major damp problems then these need to be sorted out before applying the anti-damp paint for it to have any longer term chance of success.
