Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus is the next generation all surface, all purpose water-based primer, sealer and stainkiller for interior & exterior use. Like Bulls Eye 1-2-3, it deals effortlessly with hard to paint interior and exterior substrates such as glossy surfaces, ceramic tiles, non-ferrous metal, vinyl, hardboard, melamine, varnish, plastic, GRP, UPVC, wood, masonry and more.
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus is available to buy today at Rawlins Paints in nine striking pastel colours, ideal for effortlessly covering difficult stains and odours, or priming surfaces which standard paints have difficulty adhering to. Ideal for interior and exterior use, this ‘next generation’ of water-based primer, sealer and stain killer coatings from Zinsser delivers high-end performance grade finishes generally only found with solvent-based products. There is no other water-based primer that can deliver the stain blocking power of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus.
If a project requires a primer that improves topcoat adhesion to glossy surfaces (including painting over gloss paint), ceramic tiles, glass and non-ferrous metal – including aluminium, stainless steel and galvanised metals - then this product will deliver, every time. As well as on vinyl, hardboard, melamine, varnish and previous varnished surfaces, plastic, GRP, UPVC, wood, masonry and more, this universal primer should be to hand for every general maintenance professional, and trade painter and decorator. Interior projects this product is ideal for, include walls and ceilings, doors, trim, window sills, fascia, soffits, hand and stair railings, cupboards, units and drawers, foundations, and previously decorated surfaces.
Maintenance projects which offer limited preparation times to sand back or de-gloss previously varnished or painted surfaces, will benefit from the incredible adhesive properties that Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus offers. Painting over gloss skirting boards or doors, enamel paints, wax-free varnishes and wood stains and Formica® can be done after basic surface cleaning.
Containing Hydro Pliolite™, a revolutionary resin with powerful stain blocking capabilities and excellent adhesion, 1-2-3 Plus is specially formulated to resist re-wetting – meaning it can block water soluble stains like a solvent-based primer. Sealing oil-soluble stains means that general painting and maintenance projects can be completed with just one primer. For surfaces with historical stain problems, such as nicotine and smoke stains, stubborn oil-spots, grease, fatty deposits, rust, marker pens and graffiti, creosote, soot, smoke damage, asphalt stains and in degraded sanitary areas, this product can be directly applied to the surface to cover unsightly discolouration and hide unpleasant smells.
In damp and high-humidity areas, such as bathrooms, laundry rooms, and kitchens, Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus and its contained biocide will protect the dried coating against fungal degradation, mould and mildew. Along with the visible surface area fungal degradation protection, this excellent primer and sealer will offer fungal degradation resistance directly to the substrate surface, prolonging the life of the paint job.
As a direct to metal product, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus provides a rust-inhibitive coating on iron railings, steel frames, piping, steel doors, metal panels, duct work, galvanised gutters, etc.
One of the main benefits of water-based paints, especially for communal areas, and in workplaces where maintenance projects that are being undertaken cannot be easily closed off, Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus contains ultra-low VOC content and extremely fast dry times of just 30 minutes.

I want to paInt a Metal clad fed fire door with. Anti graffiti paint Do I need primer:undercoat and if so which one And which of your range should I choose to deter graffiti artists?
Assuming the metal is bare, we would recommend painting with something like Rust-Oleum CombiColor to achieve the desired colour/appearance and then finishing with Hydron Nu-Guard AG Clear. We have assumed graffiti protection is the requirement here as these products offer no fire resistance properties. If fire protection needs to be taken into account, please contact our Technical Team on 0113 2455450 (option 2) or email [email protected]

I am looking to paint external UPVC windows and cladding. I have read your article regarding UPVC prep on the website but still unsure of a couple of things; this is only a primer, meaning that any exterior paint would work with this, is that correct? Is this product also suitable for spraying?
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus can be applied by brush, roller or spray and then overcoated with a suitable topcoat of your choice.

Planning to use pvc bathroom cladding which I would like to paint a different colour from the white/off white they tend to come in to match with other colours in the bathroom. Will this work to prepare the cladding before I paint it using satinwood afterwards?
For this application we would suggest the standard Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3. As the PVC is new and will have a shiny finish the sheets should be abraded lightly with a fine grade of sandpaper then given a wipe over with a damp cloth. 1 coat of Bulls Eye would be sufficient. We would also suggest Zinsser Perma-White Interior as the finish coat in the colour of your choice. This will give a good durable finish in a bathroom situation provided the panels are not within the shower enclosure.

I have a job after an electrical fire causing smoke damage to paint work! It has been professional cleaned, my question is can I use zinssers bulls eye 123 to seal and block the smoke staining on the walls? It is a very small area with no ventilation and don't really want to use BIN primer
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus seals porous surfaces and traps most stains in the primer film – water, graffiti, grease, rust, cedar & redwood tannin, creosote, smoke damage and asphalt stains. Allow two hours dry time when using as a stain blocker. Some stains may require a second coat. Not suitable for use on steel or other ferrous metals as flash rusting may occur.

I want to paint the newly plastered ceiling of a low alcove that has my cooker-hobs partly underneath it, so the area will be prone to steam and condensation+++ Will this product be suitable?
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus can be used as a primer in this location however it will need a suitable top coat such as Zinsser Perma-White Interior to finish the job off. Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus cannot be left as a finish paint. Zinsser Perma-White Interior is suitable for areas subject to condensation and steam.

Can this be used to paint over bitumen paint on an exterior wall?
Yes Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Plus can be used to prime bitumen. The surface should be washed down first, if the bitumen is old and weathered the Bulls Eye will take to it well, if it is new and still shiny the primer may not take to it as easily, in this case it may be advisable to carry out a test area first.

Question: I am very hesitant to paint the interior of my uPVC kitchen door, which is presently mahogany coloured. I am dithering about it because it will cost a lot to replace if I get it wrong! So is this the best way to proceed: Universal degreaser, then Zinsser Bulls Eye1-2-3 Plus, then top coat of my choice? Do I need to sand down at any stage- opinion seems to be sharply divided on some forums. Many thanks.
We have written a blog post on How to Paint PVC Surfaces which explains the process, read it HERE.

Question: I need to paint a damp-prone wall that was smoke damaged. The landlord has not addressed the damp but if I seal the inside with this product in order to cover the smoke damage, will it cause problems to the wall (which is an external wall)? The wall is in a hair salon so will be fairly high humidity Thanks
If the dampness is due to external issues or rising damp Zinsser Watertite would be the recommended product to use but the plaster would need to be taken off back to bare brick then the paint applied before being re-plastered and decorated.
As a short term solution if the above isn't an option you could try Blackfriar Interior Seal Damp. Apply 2 coats to seal the damp, then apply Zinsser Cover Stain followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior. However, we would not be able to say how long this system would last.
If the dampness is mainly due to the humidity from the salon itself, provided the walls are dry at the time of painting, seal the walls with 1 coat of Zinsser Cover Stain followed by 2 coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior in the colour and finish of your choice. The Coverstain will seal the smoke damage and the Perma-White will stop moisture getting into the walls and causing problems in the future.
