Question: Its not so much a question on your product, but a question on preparation.
I have a steel keel on my yacht (type unknown), but its become very rusty (type D) and I am looking at using your paint. If I was to use power tools, would I need to remove all the rust marks and secondly where the steel is pitted should I use your paint first and then fill (Please advise type of filler) or should I perhaps use a 2 pack epoxy primer as a filler.
The way forward is to get the best possible surface preparation, removing most of the corrosion. More importantly we need a roughness so avoid polishing the steel if sanding/discing.
Vital is to then to detergent wash (fairy liquid soapy solution) and rinse thoroughly with fresh water, high pressure if possible to remove contamination.
We would then suggest (if application by brush) Jotamastic Smart Pack, minimum 3 coats, 4 is better. Apply 1 st coat direct to steel, allow to dry and then fill with an epoxy filler, allow to dry, sand and then continue with further coats.
