Carboline Carboguard 890 MIO is a highly chemical resistant epoxy mastic coating with exceptionally versatile uses in all steel and concrete industrial markets. Self-priming and suitable for application over most existing coatings and St2. St3 prepared substrates
This coating is self-priming. May be applied over inorganic zinc primers and other tightly adhering coatings. A mist coat may be required to minimize bubbling over inorganic zinc primers. Do not apply over latex coatings.
Surfaces must be clean and dry. Employ adequate methods to remove dirt, dust, oil and all other contaminants that could interfere with adhesion of the coating.
Steel
Sa2½ with a 38-75 surface profile. St2, St3 and Sa1 are suitable preparation methods for mild environments.
Galvanized Steel
SSPC-SP1 and prime with specific Carboline primers as recommend by Carboline
Concrete
Concrete must be cured 28 days at 24C and 50% relative humidity or equivalent. Prepare surfaces in accordance with ASTM D4258 Surface Cleaning of Concrete and ASTM D4259 Abrading Concrete. Voids in concrete may require surfacing. Prime with Carboguard 1340.
Previously Painted Surfaces
Lightly sand or abrade to roughen surface and de-gloss the surface. Existing paint must attain a minimum 3B rating in accordance with ASTM D3359 “X-Scribe” adhesion test.
Mixing
Power mix separately, then combine and power mix, at 1:1 Ratio (A to B). DO NOT MIX PARTIAL KITS.
Thinning
Spray: Up to 12% w/ Thinner 2.
Brush or Roller: Up to 15% w/ Thinner 33.
Use of thinners other than those supplied or recommended by Carboline may adversely affect product performance and void product warranty, whether expressed or implied.
