Eagle Black Bituminous Paint protects steelwork, asphalt and wood, concrete and potable water tanks with an odourless and taint-free bitumen film that is waterproof and resistant to weather and corrosion.
Resistant to low concentrations of alkalis and acids, withstanding prolonged oxidation, Eagle Black Bituminous Paint is suitable for application to a wide variety of surfaces including steel, iron, lead, zinc, aluminium, concrete, stone and brick, and is used mainly for:
Eagle Black Bituminous Paint dries to a shiny black coating, dulling with exposure to sunlight.
Use a brush or sprayer, applying evenly and ensuring no pooling of solution. A minimum of two coats is recommended, allowing the first coat to dry before overcoating.
All surfaces must be free from oil, dirt, dust and loose debris, using a wire brush on metal surfaces to remove loose rust, and using a rust inhibitor where signs of advanced corrosion are spotted.
On treating porous surfaces, an initial coat of Bituminous Primer should be applied.
Surfaces should be dry and clear of mill scale, rust and dirt. All surfaces should be degreased immediately prior to application.
Brush application is preferred to ensure a thorough coating of all recesses, edges, rivets and bolts.
Apply two coats, allowing at least a 24 hour drying period between coats (Drying may be assisted by the provision of a forced air draught). It is important that the first coat is completely dry before application of the second coat.
Use clean, uncontaminated application equipment.
After the second coat has dried and before the tank is put into service it should be filled with cold drinking water and drained after not less than 4 hours. If a taste is detected in this water, the process should be repeated.
Coverage per litre is dependent upon the porosity of the surface.
For metals and smooth surfaces 10m² per litre should be attained. On porous surfaces coverage will be considerably less.
