The dry film only fully cures after heating, slowly, to above 220°C for 20 to 30 minutes. Unless fully cured the film remains thermoplastic and sensitive to some solvents. The film may be cured in-service, some fume and light smoke generation is assosiated with the initial cure.

The practical spreading rate may be lower as this depends on factors such as the porosity and roughness of the surface to be painted and material losses during application.

  • Low temperature and high humidity will adversely affect application, drying and performance of any coating.

Surface Preparation

  • Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from grease, oil and any other contaminates.
  • Baresteel should be free from dust, rust and scale. Blast cleaning to SA 2½ is recommended. If blast cleaning is impractical, mechanical cleaning should be employed as hand cleaning does not clean the steel to the required degree.
  • Any oil or grease should be removed with Teamac Universal Degreaser before de-rusting. Where blast cleaning is carried out after assembly, special attention must be paid to edges, corners, nuts, bolts, welds etc. Welds should, if necessary be ground and all weld spatter, slag etc. must be removed.

Mix well before use.

Application Conditions

As dictated by normal good painting practice. In confined spaces, provide adequate ventilation during application and drying.

questions tom rashotte on 2019-11-03 13:17:00

will this paint prevent corrosion between the painted aluminum and unpainted stainless steel (in a wet environment)?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

No, but you could use the following system over aluminium;

Surface preparation: Ensure surface is clean, dry and free from metal corrosion products prior to application. Light sweep with non-metallic and chloride free abrasive (e.g. aluminium oxide or garnet) to obtain anchor profile of approximately 50 microns.

Alternatively, some sort of insulation material may also work.

questions Grayson on 2018-07-22 13:14:58

Is this aluminium paint painted on or sprayed ?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This paint should be applied by brush or roller.
