    Consumption

    7715/7778 Aerosols
Theoretical consumption2 m² per spray can at 25 µm dry

Practical consumption depends on many factors such as porosity and roughness of the substrate and material losses during application.

    Application

    Surface preparation

Remove dirt, grease, oil, loose rust and all other surface contaminants by appropriate means. Sand intact coatings to roughen the surface slightly. The surface must be clean and dry during application.

    Application conditions

Only apply if the air and surface temperatures are between 5 and 35°C and the relative humidity is less than 85%. The temperature of the coated surface must be at least 3°C above the dew point.

    Application by aerosol

Remove cover cap and shake vigorously for at least one minute after the rattle of mixing ball is heard. Shake frequently during use.

Hold can approx. 30 cm from surface. Use back and forth motion keeping can parallel with surface.

Ensure that can is in motion when spray button is pressed to avoid runs and sags.

Apply several thin layers at a few minutes interval to achieve adequate coating thickness.

After use turn can upside down and press spray button for 2 - 3 seconds to clean valve.

    Application to Stainless Steel;

    Blast cleaning to achieve an appropriate surface profile is the best method of preparation for stainless steel, however as Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is for general/consumer use and not professional or industrial applications we can assume that in the majority of instances blast cleaning will not be achievable. The principle of requiring a profiled surface to assist in the adhesion of the paint system remains, and so preparation advice for smaller projects that still wish to attempt it would be as follows;

The surface should be thoroughly cleaned and degreased using Rust-Oleum Pre-Paint Cleaner, followed by hand or machine abrasion to impart a scratch pattern to the surface. Use non-metallic abrasives, bonded fibre machine or hand abrasive pads - Do not use high speed rotational sanders.

We must stress the importance that this abrading process actually results in a profiled surface that can be seen by eye and felt by fingertips. Trying to achieve such a surface onto stainless steel will require extensive effort and it must be noted that this will still not ultimately equal product performance which would be achieved by the blast cleaning method referenced above.

    questions Gillian O'Brien on 2023-02-13 15:29:10
    Question:

Could this paint be used to spray onto night storage heaters, or is there a better product for storage heaters?Thank you

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Rust-Oleum Heat Resistant Paint 750°C is a matt finish only available in Black or Aluminium colours.

Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original will take a temperature up to 90°C and is available in many RAL, NCS or BS colours in a satin or gloss finish.

As we don’t know what actual surface temperature the storage heater will get up to we can’t say for sure if the paint will be OK on any particular storage heater, it could depend on the model, type etc.

You will need to check with them manufacturer to find out what the surface temperature of their particular heater will get to during use.

If it is below 90°C then Rust-Oleum CombiColor Original could be used.

Please note this is a solvent based coating, designed for industrial use, as such it will give of odours during application, curing and the first heat cycles.

    Question:

Can I just confirm if this product be used on a car exhaust and if so can it be used on the catalytic converter as well as the silencer.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This can be applied on new, bright or shot-blasted steel or well pre-treated coated surfaces such as barbecues, boiler fittings, hot air cannons or exhausts.

it is intended for small maintenance jobs and repairs, providing protection up to a dry heat of 750°C (short term peak load) for applications indoors or in a sheltered outdoor environment.

Assuming this is to be used on an exhaust under a vehicle we would not recommend it for this application.

    questions Tom on 2022-11-17 19:00:12
    Question:

How do you suggest you get the heat gradually up to 150degrees to fully cure it. I am hoping to paint brake disc hubs?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately we do not have a product to recommend for this application to brake discs.

This product is suitable for applications indoors or in a sheltered outdoor environment.

    Question:

Do the painted surfaces with the paint need to be heat cured once the paint is dry or not. If the paint is needed to be cured then at what temperature and for how long.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes, the paint will be fully cured 24 hours after the minimum service temperature of 150°C has been reached.

Gradually heat the coating to 150°C (max. 50°C/hour).

    Question:

Can this paint be used on aluminium. If so what preparation. If not, what product can be used on aluminium.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the aluminium is bare, sanded, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this can be applied to aluminium.

    Question:

Can this be used on a barbeque cast iron grille and is it food safe?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately this is not food safe and should not be used on anything in direct flame contact.

    Question:

Hi does this paint need to be baked on after spraying, as i dont like the idear of putting the items in our household oven! Thanks, marc

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Thank you for the enquiry, unfortunately we do not have a product we can recommend for application to an oven.

    questions Mark on 2022-05-03 15:59:23
    Question:

Can this be used on stainless steel motorcycle exhaust headers and would a primer be required?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Stainless steel would need to be abraded first to aid adhesion, the product will then withstand Standard 600°C (dry heat) / Short term peak 750°C (dry heat).

But please note this is only suitable for internal applications or those in a sheltered outdoor environment.

    questions Jen on 2022-01-27 17:50:37
    Question:

Hi, Can this be used safely on stove top drip pans? Thank you! Jen

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Thank you for the enquiry, unfortunately we do not have a product we can recommend for this application.
