Britannia Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer
A metal primer for ferrous metals such as iron and steel that offers sound anti-corrosion properties and superb capacity and coverage. Can be used over existing paintwork.
Examples of Use
- Metal artwork
- Metal trusses
Britannia Zinc Phosphate Metal Primer provides top rate adhesion to ferrous metals such as iron and steel. The off-white primer also incorporates anti-corrosion properties for peace of mind that the metal is protected right down to the priming stage.
Product Use in the Workplace
- Bridge - Exposed to the elements, bridges need full protection from corrosion, including down to the primer. The addition of Zinc Phosphate in this primer allows added corrosion protection.
- Metal truss - Corrosion not only weakens iron and steel, but it also creates an ugly appearance. A configuration of metal trusses on the exterior of a large public space has to not only look the part, but also offer the best possible protection from corrosion.
Features & Benefits
- Higher solids metal primer.
- Anti corrosion.
- Superb capacity and coverage.
- Contains Zinc Phosphate for added corrosion protection.
- Can be used over sound existing paintwork.
- Use in conjunction with Polyshield 10/15.
Preparation & Application
Ensure all areas are clean, dry and free from dust, dirt, corrosion and general surface contamination. All oils, grease, etc should be removed with a suitable degreasing solution. Degreasing with a Spirit Wipe is recommended and should be carried out after any abrasion of the surface.
Should preferably be abrasion blast cleaned to BS 7079 Standard SA2.5. Thorough mechanical preparation (e.g. power wire brushing, needle gunning, grinding etc) can be utilised for mild environments.
Sound existing paint work. Dry sand using P320-P240.
To clean, remove as much primer as possible from application equipment before cleaning. > For cleaning equipment use Britannia special solvent (not white spirit).
|1st coat||20°C - Touch dry: 30 mins. Through dry: 6 hours|
|Overcoat||20°C - Minimum: 2 hours. Maximum: Indefinite|
If primer is not overcoated within 14 days then abrade with either P240-P320 and clean with a spirit wipe. Curing of the coating can be extended at lower temperatures.
It is your responsibility to read the Product Data Sheets (available below) before you place an order and prior to application of the product. The content of this website is our best recommendation and is not advice. Coverage rates quoted are approximate, you agree that coverage depends on the condition of the substrate, surface absorption, texture and application method. We ALWAYS recommend a trial area is coated to ensure the product meets your requirements before use.
