Hi. I am looking to use your AllCoat multi-colour Primer and Finisher together with F&B paint. I got the the F&B Pantalon No. 221 paint. Can you tell me which colour on the Primer will work best with that paint t ? Also any tips on using the primer on plastic ?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Unfortunately we cannot cross reference that F&B code, we would recommend consulting a RAL, NCS or BS colour chart and find a close match, this will aid coverage particularly if your topcoat is a bold colour.

Question:
What would be the best paint to spray onto oak kitchen cupboards to give a long lasting durable satin finish .
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the oak cupboards are bare, clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend the Kolorbond uPVC Painting Kits.
This can be mixed to many RAL, BS or NCS colours in a satin finish.
Can I paint this directly onto bathroom tiles ? Any prepping required and how many coats?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
No, we would not recommend this for application to bathroom tiles.
Assuming the tiles are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet we can recommend the Rust-Oleum Tile Transformation Kit.
This is available in Aspen White and is suitable for water contact.

Question:
We had wallpaper on many walls then removed it. We overpainted with emulsion but each time there was a reaction and left us with walls that were quite rough looking similar to a furry finish and no matter how we tried we could not smooth them out! What would you recommend we use to repaint the walls with.
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
It is likely that there is some wall paper glue residue still remaining on the walls and the emulsion is reactivating it and giving you the rough texture.
We would suggest sanding the applied paint off and removal of any remaining glue residue with a wall paper steamer and scraper.
The walls must be fully dry prior to reapplication.

Question:
I need to paint many walls which have been covered with an 'alkaline solution' following smoke damage from a fire. The black smoke marks are like smears over the walls, with a sheen. Which product would you recommend I use to prime before painting with my desired emulsion?

Thank you for the enquiry, we have a detailed blog post covering this subject which you can find here.

Question:
I've bought the allcoat (sb) and I'm due to use it with a paint sprayer. Should I be adding any parts of water to the paint, to make it more sprayable?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
This paint is designed to be applied by airless spray and should not be thinned.

Question:
I want to paint some door frames and skirting for starters with a paint that wont chip. I have a mixture of mdf and pine that I have sanded to remove the shiny ness. I have tried lots of expensive paints and primers over the years, with lots of prep but within months they are chipping. I also want a dark brown to compliment my dark oak doors and floors. Please advise
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Rust-Oleum 9200 Rust-O-Thane is a satin, water based polyurethane which offers a very durable and colourfast finish on coated floors, walls and primed metal. It is available in RAL and BS colours so you should be able to find a colour to compliment your existing finishes.

Question:
I notice a lot of reviews say they use exterior paint inside their home. Is the exterior paint stronger? What are the benefits of interior paint vs exterior when painting internal walls or trim? Thank you
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Not all products suitable for external use would be recommended for use internally, it would depend on the individual product and the application.

Question:
Zinsser AllCoat Interior (Solvent-Based) It says this product will cover nicotine stain. Can this be a good alternative to using the cover stain? I am thinking it may save time using another paint as coat I can do multiple coats with same paint
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Yes that is correct, it will cover nicotine stains without the need of a separate primer.
Question on 2021-04-22 21:29:20
Question:
Planning to paint a room that has mild nicotine discolouration.. want to paint white matt. Would you recommend the zinesser allcoat interior or the perma white interior? Will these block stains?
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the walls or timber are clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data sheet we can recommend priming first with Zinsser Cover Stain followed by two coats of Zinsser Perma-White Interior.
This can be mixed in many RAL and BS colours in a matt or satin finish.

Question:
Hi, could you please tell me if this paint would this be suitable to use on kitchen wall tiles, including area around cooker? Many thanks
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the substrate is clean, dry, sound, prepared as detailed in the Techncial Data Sheet and a test for compatiblilty and adhesion is donr prior to full application this could be applied to tiles.
But this product is not designed to be heated or come in direct contact with flames so may not be suitable if close to the heat source.

Question:
Hi there, I am looking at doing a paint makeover on my gloss bathroom vanity unit. Please could you recommend a paint that is suitable and that is steam and water stain free. Many thanks J.Wilson
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Assuming the cabinet is not exposed to direct water contact, it is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the Technical Data sheet we can recommend Bulls Eye 1-2-3 followed by Zinsser Perma-White Interior.
This is available in many RAL and BS colours in a satin or matt finish.

Question:
I am after the best primer for mdf interior walls for my summer house, not a water based product as this isn’t good for MDF, would the Zinsser All coat primer (oil based) or the Zinsser BIN (shellac based) primer be best? Before using any topcoat paint. Thank you
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 is a good primer for MDF, it does raise the fibres slightly but it will seal the MDF very well. A light rub down with fine sandpaper will remove the raised fibres. Zinsser B-I-N can also be used, this doesn’t raise the fibres but may need more coats to completely seal the MDF.

Question:
Is this suitable to use on white pvc windowsill and the sides of white casing. I got double glazed windows put in but the pvc is still old. If not what do you recommend to restore the pvc to get them to be white again. Many thanks
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Satin (Water Based) or Zinsser AllCoat Exterior Gloss (Water Based) would be the better option for both interior and exterior uPVC. Interior uPVC surfaces will need to be lightly abraded first then wiped down to remove dust and surface contamination before applying 2 coats AllCoat Exterior Satin or Gloss. Exterior surfaces which have been weathered can be washed down using warm water and dilute detergent followed by rinsing off with clean water and then 2 coats AllCoat Exterior Satin or Gloss.
Question: What is the drying time and is it a brushable product.
What thinners should be used to clean brushes.
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:
Application Data: Brush, roller or pad: natural bristle or lambskin Airless Spray: .017” tip @ 2200-2800 psi, minimum pump size: ¾ G.P.N
Dry Times (24°C): To touch: 1 hr To recoat: 2hrs Stain sealing: 2hrs Full scrape cure: 7 days
Cleanup: Clean up spills and drips immediately with White Spirit. Rinse application tools in White Spirit immediately after use. Follow manufacturer’s instructions to clean spray equipment.
