sharon on 2024-04-05 11:26:52 | Question: I have a white UPVC / composite front door (not previously painted). It's in a coastal location and is south-facing so is becoming a little yellowed. I am planning to paint it white (probably 'Chalk White'). What type of cleaner should I use to prepare the surface for successful painting? (Sugar soap, UPVC cleaner? etc?) Thanks |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Assuming the surface is clean, dry, sound, lightly abraded and free from contamination, with any mould and mildew treated and removed, we'd recommend surfaces to be treated with a proprietary cleaning solution prior to applciation, such as Rust-Oleum Pre-Paint Cleaner.
Yvonne on 2023-11-04 09:29:38 | Question: I have some left over UPVC paint and love the colour. Can I use it on an external wooden door. |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Assuming the wood is suitably primed prior to applciation, this product may be applied with 2 coats recommended, similar to UPVC application. We'd recommend Zinsser Cover Stain as a Primer for Hardwood, or Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 for Softwood to prime and seal the timber prior to application.
