Application Instructions

Before starting to prepare work for painting, blow swarf and dust from the substrate.

  1. Mask the substrate, covering all surfaces which do not require painting.
  2. Clean the substrate using Vinylkleen. This will remove all water soluble contaminants together with most oils.
  3. Thoroughly clean the surface again using Windowprep on a clean white cloth which should be regularly turned.
  4. Lightly abrade the surfaces to be painted with red Scotchbrite and remove debris.
  5. Check that the paint colour is correct, then thoroughly stir the Kolorbond Aquatek paint making sure that any colourants on the base of the can are mixed in. Do not shake or over stir. Avoid producing bubbles in the paint. If this happens, allow the bubbles to come to the surface and disipate.
    • To avoid leaving brush marks or to keep a ‘wet edge’ on a warm day, Stir in 10% of KolorFlow (maximum 20%). This will slow the drying of the paint and assist leveling. The addition of KolorFlow also assists when spraying in hot weather. It is essential that you add KolorFlow if applying by roller to prevent stippling of the paint due to it drying too fast.
  6. Use a tack rag, if necessary, to remove any dust or swarf remaining on the surface of the substrate
  7. Spray or brush paint the substrate with a medium coat. Do not over brush.
  8. Allow the first coat to dry (approx.14 minutes) then apply a second coat. A third coat may be added if the colour change is drastic. Any inclusions should be removed gently, with red Scotchbrite, between coats.
  9. The paint will continue to cure and harden for up-to a week. Curing can be greatly speeded up by applying heat from a hot air gun or infra-red lamp after the paint is touch dry. Be careful not to damage the paint or substrate with excessive application of heat.
  10. Wash equipment, immediately after use with clean cold water.

Note: Put any brush you use in water if you stop painting, even for a short time. If the paint dries on your brush you will have to throw it away.

questions Rob on 2023-08-28 21:30:28
Question:

Can I use this on UPVC that has already been painted?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Assuming the existing UPVC coating is clean, dry, sound, and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet this product can be used.

We would recommend to test on a small area for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application.

This product is also available in a pack complete with the necessary prepatory materials Kolorbond UPVC Painting Kits

questions Peter Bushell on 2023-02-06 16:29:17
Question:

Hello, can the UPVC paint be applied in colder weather conditions? Many thanks Pete

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately for application of this product the temperature for application and curing must be over 10°C.

While the solvent based spray application only Kolorbond Original can be applied at 8°C it must also be over this for curing.

Care must be taken to ensure moisture does not form on the service while curing.

questions Gavin on 2022-08-16 15:29:12
Question:

Hi - can you supply this product in Valspar colours (X105R200B) or hex #62778A or RGB 98,119,138 Thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Unfortunately no, but it can be mixed to many RAL, NCS or BS colours with a satin finish.

questions David Wilson on 2022-08-04 14:17:55

questions Elizabeth on 2022-05-18 19:23:45
Question:

Do I need to use a primer underneath the paint? It’s an untreated pvcu door. Thank you.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

No, a primer is not required when this is applied to clean, dry, sound and prepared UPVC.

The two preparatory cleaners must be used prior to application.

We do sell these products in a kit with the Aquatek.

questions Ruth Savagar on 2022-05-09 09:35:52
Question:

Can this paint be applied normally with a brush?

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes this product can be applied by brush or spray application directly.

For roller application you must add up to 20% Technispray KolorFlow to the paint.

KolorFlow slows the drying of the paint, so can also be used to keep a wet edge when brushing or to prevent the paint from drying too fast on a hot day.

questions Paul on 2022-04-06 16:43:38
Question:

Hi I see this is a water base product what are the advantages over a solent base UPVC Paint ? also is it sprayable ? thanks

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Yes this is also sprayable, the advantages for this product over Technispray Kolorbond Original is that it can be applied by brush or roller as well as spray application.

It is also lower odour.

questions Hayley Lee on 2021-10-22 17:23:25
Question:

Will this work on PVC panels? And can I order some sample colours please? Kind regards Hayley

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

This is suitable for application on to PVC in most forms be it panels or window frames etc - the recommended cleaners would need to be used to ensure adhesion of the product and that a warranty could be offered. We don't offer samples I'm afraid so you could either order the smallest size available in the product in the colours you are interested in or alternatively look at a RAL or BS colour chart to aid in choosing your desired colour.

questions nigel on 2021-09-08 21:18:25
