Thermoguard Thermoproof Fluid is a clear, one coat, colourless, penetrating Fire Protection fluid for porous internal and external timber. Thermoguard Thermoproof Clear Sealer helps protect external & internal wood from weather, washing, dirt, damp & UV damage.

Thermoguard Thermoproof Fluid is clear & colourless and can be left unsealed where weathering & cleaning are not relevant. Where Thermoguard Thermoproof Clear Sealer is required it is available in clear matt or stain finish.

How It Works
Thermoguard Thermoproof Fluid expands in a fire to create an insulating layer to protect against fire. Thermoproof Clear Sealer protects wood from weather, washing, damp & UV damage.

UKAS Fire Test Standards

  • BS EN Class B s2 dO
  • Class O

Note: This product does not achieve 30 or 60min fire resistance.

  • 1 coat of Thermoguard Thermoproof Fluid

If applicable or desired then apply;

  • Internal - 1 coat of Thermoguard Thermoproof Clear Sealer
  • External - 2 coats Thermoguard Thermoproof Clear Sealer

A Certificate of Supply can be issued on request for projects for insurance, Fire and Building Control Authority and Client Records.

Limitations - Stained, Varnished or Painted Wood

  • Apply to dry wood (Max. 16% moisture), above 5°C in dry conditions.
  • For treatment with Thermoproof to be effective, it needs to be able to penetrate the wood.
  • Thermoproof can be applied over water-based penetrating wood dyes that do not seal or make the wood water-proof.
  • To fire protect painted wood, see Thermoguard Timbercoat.
  • To fire protect clear normal varnished wood, use Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat & Thermoguard Fire Varnish Overcoat.
  • To fire protect stained varnished, woodstained or other coated wood, contact Technical Dept.

New Fire Regulations & Tests Explained

  • The new fire standard BS EN test lasts 20 minutes with airflow replaces the old BS 476 tests which lasted 10 minutes and strangely restricted airflow.
  • The new standard for flamespread and heat release Class B replaces Class O.

The new BS EN tests also monitor -

  • Smoke & Gas “s” – s1 + s2 are none or very low & compliant levels, s3 moderate , s4 high smoke.
  • Flaming Droplets or Airborne particulates – dO is none, d1 some, d2 + d3 moderate > high levels.

Can you use on untreated timber and then cover with a stain products

Tom from London (Uk) - 09/02/17

Yes if you use Thermoproof Original which is a different product to Thermoproof Fluid. It is important to wait until all water in Thermoprrof Original has all escap after application before overcoating. The cost is the same as Thermoproof Fluid but we do not offer this on the website so orders must be placed over the phone.

An alternative option to achieve a similar result would be;
Thermoguard Fire Varnish Basecoat +  EITHER
Internal -   1 coat of Thermoguard Fire Varnish Overcoat (Interior) - clear or mixed to woodstain shade.
External - 2 coats of Thermoguard Fire Varnish Overcoat (Exterior) - clear or mixed to woodstain shade.
