Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote is a two-component, water dilutable, epoxy coating for interior floor and wall surfaces in garages, warehouses, showrooms, corridors, indoor car parks, workshops, etc. Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote dries to a very hard finish which provides exceptional abrasion resistance and is resistant to oils and solvents. It is solvent free, almost odourless and easy to clean leaving a smooth, stain gloss finish.

Features & Benefits

  • Exceptionally abrasion resistant
  • Smooth satin gloss finish
  • Easy to apply and clean
  • Resistant to oils ad solvents
  • Water-based, very low odour
  • Available in a range of standard colours as well as being tintable to virtually any colour

Surface Preparation
The substrate should be dry and clean, free from ascending humidity and sufficiently coherent (tensile strength min. 6kg/cm²). Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote can be applied directly on most mineral substrates (for instance old concrete, tiles, glass etc.). Curing compounds in case of poly-concrete have to be removed by means of sand or grit blasting. On new concrete or non-porous concrete, remove cement grout by sand or grit blasting, treatment with diluted hydrochloric acid at a ratio of 3 litres hydrochloric acid to 10 litres water or with Rust-Oleum Mathys 108 Surfa Etch Solution. For these two last solutions, there is obligation to rinse abundantly and to allow drying through of the surfaces. Porous substrates shall be impregnated with Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote diluted with 10-20% water. Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote may not be applied on an elastic paint coat or a moving substrate.

Directions for Use
To ensure homogeneity, coating materials should be thoroughly stirred prior to use. Stir the activator thoroughly using an electrical mixer at low speed. Add progressively under stirring to the base. Stir the mixture thoroughly until an even colour and consistency are obtained during minimum 3 minutes. Temperature of the mixed materials should be at least 10°C.

Application & Thinning

  • Brush: If necessary, dilute with water.
  • Roller: Dilute 1st coat with max. 10% water. Apply 2nd coat undiluted.
  • Air-atomised spray: Not recommended.
  • Airless spray: Nozzle: 015 - 017 / Pressure: 220 bars. 1st coat: dilute with 5-10% water. 2nd coat: dilute with max. 5% water.
  • Cleanup: Water.

Application Conditions
Minimum 8°C and maximum 80% R.H.

Remarks
1. In order to become a solid finish, please respect the consumption quantities of the second layer, this means that a tin of 4kg has to be applied on a surface of 10–13m².
2. Always provide good air ventilation; so even when it rains, windows and doors have to be opened wherever possible.
3. The 2 components must be mixed under mechanical agitation.
4. Potlife after mixing component A and B: 2 hours.
5. For use on floors submitted to heavy abrasion, standard and medium colours are recommended. In case of deep and/or bright tones (red, yellow, orange, green, blue etc), it is advised to apply a clear topcoat such as Rust-Oleum 9200 Rust-O-Thane.

Question

Can this floor paint be applied over concrete floorings previously covered with an epoxy paint or a polymer resin paint.

chris from north cave (uk) - 16/11/16

Answer

Assuming that the underlying floor substrate is solid with no damages and is not moving in any way, and that the previously (correctly applied and cured) epoxy layer remains in good condition and well adhered to the underlying substrate, then yes Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegakote can be applied on top.

In all instances, the existing surface should be thoroughly degreased using a 5% solution of Rust-Oleum Mathys ND14 Cleaner Degreaser and then sufficiently abraded by the most suitable method (e.g. blasting, grinding, etc.)

We have recently painted Floors in a University with Rustoleum Pegakote and the client is now asking what type of product they should use to clean the floors . Regards, David Ross

As a general cleaner we would recommend Rust-Oleum Floor Cleaner.

Can this product be applied directly onto Cementone Cempolay self levelling screed?

Jim Mountain from Saxmundham (Suffolk) - 13/03/16

If you have used the standard Cempolay then this is not strong enough to take an epoxy coating, it is designed to be over laid with vinyl, wood floor, tiles, etc. If you have used Cempolay Ultra Strong, then this is strong enough to take an epoxy floor coating and the Pegakote should be fine to be applied after preparation.

Which of the epoxy paints is most suitable for painting a wet room floor?

Jennifer Holburn from Stirling (Scotland) - 13/12/15

Rust-Oleum 5500 Solvent Free Epoxy would be a good choice assuming the area you have to paint is bare concrete. You might also want to consider adding an anti-slip aggregate into the system for some slip resistance.
