questions Tom Lane on 2022-07-21 11:31:26
    Question:

Hello, we have galvanized steel roof sheeting that has been in-situ for 4 years, some rust has formed but not a lot, it is well weathered generally. Would it be better to use the Pagmalink rather than a conventional etch primer before applying Mathys Noxyde as the top coat. I understand Manthys is a direct to metal paint, but I do not want to cut any corners.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Pegalink is required on new galvanised steel, it will not be required on weathered galvanised steel.

But before application of Rust-Oleum Mathys Noxyde the roof sheeting must be clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the technical data sheet including removal of any rust.

    Question:

I'm looking to paint a brick wall built of hard shiny finished engineering brick and rough rustic bricks. Is this product suitable? Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Pegalink is designed to adhere to smooth surfaces that would be usually difficult to paint such as the shiny finished engineering bricks.

But this would be no use on rough bricks, we would recommend consulting the Technical Data sheet of the chosen topcoat to ascertain what preparation these bricks may require.

    Question:

Hi I have had ongoing problems with rust reoccurring on a the interior and exterior of an older vehicle. VW T25 I have recently used Zinga (basically pure zinc) over the areas I have been able to removed the majority of the surface rust from. Pegalink is recommended as the primer over this Zinga. Can I then use conventional auto paints over this or other spirit based ones. We are not talking perfect vintage restoration finish but an acceptable standard to prolong its working life. Many Thanks

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

The Rust-Oleum Mathys Pegalink data sheet recommends allowing 24 hours before overcoating with waterborne paints - Decorative alkyd lacquers should be checked first by means of an adhesion test.

    Question:

I wish to roller apply paint to entire side lower panels of single decker PSV bus (Scania Omnicity). Currently painted with professsionally applied metalic paint + some kind of gel coat (probably polyeurothane type) Question; would this work: SURFACE PREP: sand down + prime any bare metal with aluminium primer. UNDERCOAT: Rustoleum Mathys Pegalink undercoat. TOPCOAT: Rustoleum 9200 polyeurothane water soluable topcoat be appropriate? Thank you, Martin.

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

In principle your proposal sounds OK (could also consider Rust-Oleum Mathys Metal Cladding Primer in lieu of Pegalink), but we would ideally like to know more about the proposed aluminium primer before confirming.

    questions Gazi on 2015-08-06 22:10:11
    Question:

What primer could I use on rusted steel without having to sand down the rust?

    Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team:

Coo-Var Rust Converter will turn any rust on the substrate into a stable surface allowing you to then be able to coat the substrate without the risk of any further corrosion.
