Tor Elastascrim BT (SS6000118 / SS6000120) is a non-flammable, butyl, rubber based, self-adhesive tape with a polymeric textile reinforcement protection fleece. Used for the bridging of roof sheet lap joints, stabilised cracks, movement joints, small gaps, abutment details etc, prior to application of Tor roof waterproofing and protective coating systems etc.

Preparation

Ensure all surfaces are sound, clean, dry, smooth and dust free. Lightly abrade hard coatings and plastics. Remove corrosion, chalking, etc. from weathered surfaces. Treat porous surfaces with a suitable Tor primer/stabilising solution and allow to through-dry before applying Tor Elastascrim BT. Bare metal surfaces should be correctly prepared and primed with suitable materials conducive to the type/condition of the surface and the intended protective system.

Note: the compositions of “Plastisol” type surfaces can vary widely, so it is advisable to conduct adhesion test applications over materials of this type.

Application

Unroll the tape and cut to the desired length. While removing the release paper, accurately place the adhesive compound into position onto the contact area. Using a cloth pad or other suitable implement, press firmly into place to eliminate air pockets and obtain full surface contact.

When bridging construction/expansion joints, cover the gap with a suitable width bond break tape before the Tor Elastascrim BT tape is applied. If necessary, apply an overlapped twin layer of Tor Elastascrim BT tape to ensure an effective bridge is achieved.

After installation, always encapsulate the Elastascrim BT tape with a glass fibre mat reinforced stripe coat of embedment/base coat (or a heavy duty build coat compatible with the coating system) at lap joints and other movement areas, and allow to cure before applying the full system.

Note: Butyl rubber materials are solvent-sensitive. Depending on composition of the intended coating system, it may be necessary to apply an isolation coating over the protection fleece to prevent permeation of solvents into the adhesive compound.
