Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: If abrasion is proving difficult you could use a paint stripper such as Thermoguard Thermostrip PRO. This can remove many types of paint from wood, metal, brick, stone or fibreglass. | |

Assuming the previously painted timber is clean, dry, sound and prepared as detailed in the techncial data sheet we can recommend Smartkote Protectakote UVR. This is available in a range of colours and a clear option. We would recommend testing for compatibility and adhesion prior to full application on the previously painted timber. | |

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Assuming it is decking you wish to coat, Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating could be used however the grit particle in the coating could be quite abrasive for bare feet. If you decide to go down this route, the timber must be completely dry and free from organic material, moss, mould, etc. before applying any coating. For best protection from UV we advise staining the decking with something like Blackfriar Exterior Wood Preservative Gold Star first followed by 2 coats of Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating. Avoid any splashes of these products getting into the pool water during application. Once they have dried fully they should be OK to be close to the swimming pool itself. | |

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: The solvent in Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating may dissolve and smudge the permanent marker pen. You won’t know until you do a test, it may also discolour the Cuprinol paint slightly giving it a yellow tinge. Finally, the aggregate in Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating will make the surface more difficult to clean, not easier. Another product to consider would be Smartkote Safekote. | |

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Yes the solvent in the Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating is harmful to aquatic life. You may be able to cover over the pond below the decking to catch splashes. The cover should be kept in place for several days until the coating is hard. It may be advisable to apply the coating during warmer weather next spring. The coating will dry quicker and the decking will be drier. | |

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating would be our recommendation as it is a clear, protective surface coating that will seal the wood. The surfaces would need to be sanded smooth if you have any areas where the wood is damaged and causing splinters. We have no testing or experience of this product being used specifically to stop splinters so cannot offer any guarantees on performance but it will allow you to keep the look of your decking and provide a sealed, anti-slip surface to the wood. | |

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: As long as the Cuprinol product does not contain any wax, then Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating should be fine to apply. If it does contain wax you may be able to leave it to weather for approximately 6 months to allow any waxes to wear away and then apply Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating - be sure to carry out a test area prior to full application if this is the case.

Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: We do not recommend the Blackfriar Anti-Slip Deck Coating is used on interior surfaces as it would provide a poor appearance and be difficult to clean. To provide a low slip finish internal we would normally recommend a matt or satin floor varnish would be a better option (such as Coo-Var Polyurethane Clear Floor Coating). The floor varnishes are quite hard wearing and should last a number of years before needing to be recoated in the high wear areas. | |
