SikaCeram-140 Rapid Set is a rapid-setting, water resistant tile adhesive that is suitable for bonding ceramic and mosaic tiles to floors or walls, and suitable for both thick and thin bed applications. This product is ideal for when same day fixing is required and can be used internally or externally.

Tiles can be grouted approx. 1-2 hours after fixing (subject to normal room temperatures).

Suitable for application on most building substrates, including but not limited to, cement or concrete substrates, building blocks, brickwork, etc.

Uses:

• Interior and exterior applications
• Securing floor and wall tiles to most surfaces
• Heavy duty areas such as floors with heavy foot traffic. Tiling domestic, communal, and power showers
• Areas subject to occasional wetting but not total immersion (e.g bathrooms, kitchens, domestic showers etc)

Surface Preparation

Concrete/Screeds/Renders

• Allow fresh concrete etc to dry for at least 4 weeks before tiling
• Prime surfaces with SikaBond PVA+ diluted 3 parts water to 1 part PVA Bond and allow to dry

Timber Floors/floorboards

• Suitable for interior floors only. Ensure adequate ventilation beneath floors.
• Cover with boarding (plywood or chipboard) which must be at least 12 mm thick and be of moisture resistant grade
• Secure with screws, not nails, at 150 mm centres
• Prime with SikaBond SBR+ at 1:3 dilution rate
• Adhesive must be mixed with SikaBond SBR+ diluted 1:1 with water

Softwood tongue and groove boarding

• Boards must be screwed down to joists at 300 mm centres and surfaces sealed with SikaBond SBR+ at 1:3 dilution
• Adhesive must be mixed with neat SikaBond SBR+ to ensure long term flexibility
• Note: this will slightly retard the set

Existing tiling

• Ensure tiles are securely bonded to wall
• Roughen surface of glazed tiles with sander
• Apply a bonding coat of neat SikaBond PVA+
• Mix adhesive with SikaBond SBR+ diluted 1:1 with water
• Apply adhesive whilst bonding coat is still tacky

Application Instructions

Mixing

• SikaCeram-140 Rapid Set should be added to clean water
• Mix approximately three parts by volume powder to 1 part by volume water (approx. 4 to 1 by weight) and mix to a slump free mortar

Application

• Spread adhesive to a depth of 6 mm and comb to 3 mm to leave a solid bed with 3 mm ribs
• Work in an area no greater than 1 m² or equivalent to 20 minutes working time
• Press the tiles firmly into place using a slight twisting action
• Tile positions can be adjusted up to 20 minutes after initial fixing
• Leave a grout joint of at least 3 mm, unless self spacing tiles are used
• Surface adhesive should be cleaned from the faces of the tiles with a moist cloth
• Rake excessive adhesive from within joints before setting takes place
• The open time of the exposed adhesive bed is approx. 30-45 minutes depending on surface porosity and site conditions
• Initial set will occur between 1-2 hours
• This product will fully harden in approx. 24 hours
• It is important the tiles are left undisturbed for a minimum of 2 hours after fixing at normal room temperatures
• Do not use at temperatures below +4 ˚C

Grouting

• Allow 3-4 hours before grouting depending on site conditions or when tiles are sufficiently firm to accept light foot traffic
• Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for protecting and sealing the tiles before and after grouting

Cleaning Of Tools

• All equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use
