Cromar Elastathane Universal Primer, a one component, low viscosity, polyurethane based primer suitable for all substrates and designed for Same-day/Next-day top-coating.
It is characterised by its very low viscosity and balanced curing speed which result in excellent wetting, impregnation and paint-over time on different substrates, whether of high, low or no porosity (e.g. glass and metals).
Recommended to be used as primer for:
- Concrete structures
- Ceramic tiles
- Non-porous substrates like glass, marble & metals

Limitations
Will discolour when used alone & left exposed. This is purely visual and does not affect the performance of the membrane.
Any imperfections & hollows must be sealed & levelled prior to primer application to ensure there is no ponding of primer.
Do not apply primer at greater application rates than recommended to ensure correct curing period.
Applying too much primer can result in topcoat imperfections in the final finish of the cured membrane.
The primer must be touch dry & not tacky before topcoat application.
Application Procedure
Repair & level any surface imperfections prior to primer application. Where possible clean the surface using a high pressure washer. Remove oil, grease and wax contaminants, cement laitance, loose particles, mould release agents. Any cured membranes must also be removed. If a solar reflective coating is present carry out an adhesion test. Mark out area to ensure correct dosage & coverage rates, do not allow primer to pond.
Apply with brush or roller. Once cured, Elasta-Thane 25 can be applied.
Important Application Notes
- Under no circumstances are Primers or Topcoats to be applied at temperatures below 5℃
- It is essential that all Primers and Topcoats are allowed to completely dry before over-coating
- Drying time will depend on the local climatic conditions, and the lower the ambient and surface temperature, the greater will be the drying time. (Can be between 2 hours and 2 days.)
- Applicators must physically check before continuing
- DO NOT APPLY UNLESS DRY
Coverage
Approx: 100- 500gr/m2, subject to substrate porosity.

Tom on 2022-02-01 13:30:06 | Question: Can this primer be used before applying thermoplastic road markings |
Answer from Rawlins’ Technical Team: Unfortunately this product has been discontinued. We stock Ennis-Flint Flexiline Thermoplastic Lines and the primer used when applying these to a prepared concrete substrate is Ennis-Flint CP Primer. | |
